Well guys, if you've seen my posts around these parts, you will know for sure that my RBII is my fave. In fact just yesterday I posted a picture and said that my incoming GP will have some stiff competition for love. Well a mere matter of hours after that post, disaster struck.

I noticed that the chrono seconds hand was not straight. It soon became clear that the hand had come off the pinion. I have no idea how this happened as it was sat in my watch box since taking the earlier picture and as I picked it out to wear it, I was mortified at the sight.

I had a billion and one dad and man jobs to do at the time so had to just put it down and slap in another, but as I went about my 'honey do' list, I could think of nothing other than my poor Rubens and what I would need to do. I decided that I'd give the repair a go myself.

For all the budding novices out there, this is for you..... have confidence, you can do it. It is not as daunting as it seems. I have a pretty basic set of tools, and could really do with some better ones, but what I have was enough to do the trick.

I am pleased to report that with a little advice from the legend, JS slaughterer62 and a lot of encouragement from my man Jeane123 I was able to get the job done. A thread like this is worthless without pictures, so my friends......

You can do it too!!

To "release" the actual watch face from the case do you just keep unwinding the winder?? I had a similar problem with a cheap rep and ended up trying to pull it out and breaking it!

is it just that simple or is there a trick?? Any help would be appreciated

There is a small push button inline with the stem. Very, very gently push that in slightly, pull on the stem gentle while you are doing that, and the stem will release.
To reinstall, gently push the stem into the hole while rotating the stem to line it up.

Thanks I thought there must be some sort of catch or button to release it. Hopefully I won't need to do it again but wouldn't want to ruin a higher end rep. Just been reading about the DIY work on a rep, greasing and oiling etc and I think I may have to tackle that job as my rotor is a little louder than I would like.

There are also little screws around the edge of the movement that have little clips on, these are what holds the movement in place inside the case. Don't forget to take these out before trying to remove the movement

Well done mate.
For the next time, it's much easier if you remove the strap before you work at the watch.
