For those of you with a 15202 and 15400/15500, which one do you prefer? I feel like the 15202 is dimensionally better and I love the design, but I'm not very sold on the lack of the seconds hand (yes, I know, the original RO didn't have it either). On the other hand, the 15400/15500 doesn't seem nearly as "refined" as the jumbo. Perhaps the Jumbo is more of a dressy watch and the 15400/500 is more of an everyday or casual watch? What are your thoughts?

You gotta try both for yourself. Personally, I've had several 15500s and I sold them within 2 weeks of owning them. However, my ap 15202 is my favourite watch of all time, so much so that I am going to get the genuine version.

I have 8" wrists, and I was concerned it would be too small. But it's not. It is just perfect. I like you was also concerned about the lack of a seconds hand, truth be told. I've never ever even thought about it on the wrist. It is perfect (to me) in every single way. It's light, small, but not too small, blingy, but again not too blingy. Special without showing off.

But, the ZF 15500 is finished better. The hour markers/hands on the 15500 are superb as is the dial. The 15202s are not as accurate to gen. But truth be told, it didn't bother me.
The 15500 is a better watch on paper...
The 15202 is just my perfect watch. It might be yours too, you gotta try them. It's always personal tbh. It could turn out, you don't like either!

Truthfully, the only "negative" of the 15202, is that sometimes I feel it is too blingy for everyday. Not blingy as in "Oh my he's showing off" but it's just a little too shiny for everything. Sometimes you wish to be more discreet in this life. A good example is, I went to a Tyre shop the other day to get some tyres fitted to my car. I went in my AP because it is very hard for me to take this watch off but I was self conscious.

When you say blingy, do you mean that it literally has more highly polished surfaces? If so, I'd never realized that would be the case. I'm a fan of how thin the 15202 is in comparison the 15400/500. Those extra few MMs honestly make a big difference, and with my current watch (around 11mm), something even thinner might be a nice change. I also feel that fundamentally, the audience for the two watches are very different. In many ways it feels like the 15202 is for those who want to subtly show off their wealth whereas the 15400 is a bit more overt. It also seems to be at a level above the 15400. As the designs are very similar, to someone with a limited knowledge of watches, both are APs and that's it, but to those with a bit more knowledge, a 15202 is clearly a class above regular royal oaks (in my eyes). It's a different kind of "flex".

I've been finding it difficult to narrow down on one or the other because I don't have hands-on experience with them. I've been able to check out a multitude of gen ROOs and a 26331 (rose gold, blue dial; stunning watch), but these two have eluded me. At the very base of my desires, I want a watch that I can easily wear everyday, and both these watches have elements that make them easy everyday watches. Or maybe I should chuck AP and get a 3K nautilus, not only is it super thin like the Jumbo, but it's got a seconds hand like the 15400 lol.

The 15202 reflects so much light because of how it's angled and shaped. It doesn't matter what angle you look at it, it will catch your eye. That's how I see it as blingy, not blingy in terms of icing your watch out or being big and gaudy.

Been enjoying mine, I asked strodda to relume my v1 from november when they were using the older model gray-blue sunburst instead of the more matte modern one that people are calling the "v1" now. I think it turned out great

It's not blingy because it's any shinier than the other APs... it's just the bracelet and the edges are well polished so they catch light easily. To be honest, no-one really cares what's on your wrist really, it's just sometimes find ourselves self conscious.

Really best advice I can say to you is buy them all... budget permitting obviously. Because you can always resell them here as catch and release and get 99% of your money back, you lose a small bit. But it's the only way to really know for sure.

I'd recommend getting;

ZF 15500 - Black dial
XF 15202 v2 - Blue Dial (Just be careful on QC for lume)

Then figure out if AP is for you or not, if it isn't sell those and get the Patek.

Trying is the only way... it's why I first discovered reps in the first place. I am a gen enthusiast typically... but I found myself buying/selling watches so often, that I was losing money. Better to do it with reps and then find out what you truly love. For me that's the 15202... your mileage may vary!

I take a slightly different approach with all purchases (especially larger ones) wherein I really try and do as much research as possible so I'm as informed as can be before I make a purchase, but with watches, all the reading in the world can't make up for the in-hand tangible experience. I remember how hyped I was by Tudor with everything people wrote about it online, only to be sorely disappointed by the Black Bay IRL. I guess this approach of catch & release might be a lot more fruitful in trying to find watches that I actually enjoy. Thanks for your advice! I Might just do so.

The lack of a seconds hand surprisingly doesn't bother me at all. What does bother me is the dreadful way you have to change the date. Yeah gen is like this too, but it's still functionally awful.

The lack of quickset date feels like such an odd omission. You have this stunning (true) luxury watch with beautiful design and a highly finished movement, but then you make it a PITA for the wearer to change the date. WTF AP?

actually it's a JLC movement used by PP AP and Vacheron, but not by JLC it self. Funny story......

Yeah, the cal 2121 right? Not sure if that's what JLC called it. Go on, tell us the story. IIRC Patek used it in their first Nautilus (or first few) as well.
