my feeling is that PAMs are not so popular in Europe and in general those who wanted a rep are quite satisfied and not in the market for new models. Not many mods available to be closer to gen like AP ROO, so not a lot of action lately.

Panerai's global sell through is around 60,000 watches a year - less than 10% of what Rolex sell.

It's still more than IWC and AP though...

If you want to draw conclusions from sales though, consider that Tissot sell 2x as many watches as Rolex!

As a rep, Pam's are very good. Rolexes are high end, often precious metal watches so a rep often misses the appeal and glimmer of the gen.
When you've seen a gen Rolex, a rep won't do it for you anymore I think.
AP is also very popular where I live, seen a lot of them in the wild, both gen and rep.
Have seen quite a couple pams in the wild, and I'm warming a lot of people up to them also, be it custom PAM's :)

Not long ago here and in other forums there was a different dynamic called modding. The era of the super rep was preceded by the golden era of true artisans whose craft consisted of recreating what I consider the best Panerai models of the 'modern era'. The reshapped cases of the Noob 111J and 111M by wOlf, the Pre V, Pre A and A to B dials from FGD, Jakob and his case backs, Oncyte assembling touch and the work of many other talented people, gave older members the opportunity to put together outstanding watches. ALE had to brake the mold with his iconic guide and 'classification techniques'. Marlin revolutionized the way we now look at movements in general thanks to his work on two of the most important models ever by Noob: 111N and the Fiddy.
This days (some) OTB reps are more sophisticated than what we had five years ago and with the expansion of the gen Panerai portfolio, the factories just try to keep up with it, recreating this newer models that require little of no modding. Add to this the influx of all the new members who might not like the earlier modern models as much as the new version of whatever flavor of the week is in vogue and here we are....
BTW, here in Dallas every other used car salesman has a Rolex fake or not, boring.

PAM's is what got me started on the rep world. They're the gateway (rep watch) drug to other brands. A year and a half into the hobby, and even though PAM's account for half of my reps, they've led me to Breitling, Omega, UN, Tudor and yes, a couple of Rollies.

Rolex's have a bigger following; maybe due to brand popularity, mysticism, social standard, whatever, but PAM's have such a hardcore and dedicated fanbase (just look at ALE's Guide) that it just keeps you coming back for more.

In addition, when you add the talent of custom builders like Natas78, Pratt, Black_shark, Kilowattore, etc., the PAM fun just never stops.

In short, nothing wrong with expanding brand horizons, but PAM's surely aren't getting any boring or dull with time.

I think everyone realized every PAM is the same and when they have one or two they got them all ;)

Because they all look the same?

Sorry, couldn’t help myself.

I'm puzzled as to why the question was why the PAM section in RWI is "so dead" and some are posting about the brand itself, totally missing the question. That's why I mainly stick to PAMs. It makes me focus on important things, like details. ;)

You can easily say that about any brand.

What's wrong with talking about the brand in a thread asking why the section is quiet? It's a Brand section. Brand and product are not separate in my view, even if we are generally, but not only, talking about a contraban version of that product around here.

What's wrong is if you want a coherent discussion, mixing two distinctly separate and different topics simply will not do.

"Why is Panerai dead?" is talking about the brand

"Why is the Panerai section dead?" is talking about this section

A brand's popularity does not equate to a lively section and vice versa.

Okay, show me an unpopular brand with a lively discussion section.

I'm not saying that, I'm saying the opposite.

You said a brands popularity does not equate to a lively section.

I'm saying a popular brand will have a livelier section.

Edit
I am not saying that Panerai is an unpopular brand. The opposite.
However, if you don't like people to talk brand then fine.

Abandoning thread.

Yes, not in this thread. You want to talk about the brand go do it in another thread.
