Why is panerai section so dead?

Well as with people's tastes, they vary. Some people would stand by mostly beside one brand, some like diversity while the rest tend to flip flop between brands for one reason or another (boredom can be one of them). But Panerai has come out with new materials in recent years like Carbotech in the PAM616/661/PAM700 and BMG (although titanium in reps) or given some asked for variations, like 42mm submersibles, another Bronzo in the PAM671 and thinner watches like the Due line and the PAM01XXX using the P.9010 movement. I can't say it's better or worse than the other brands because I don't follow them with the same intensity as I do Panerai.
I buy pam for each of its uniqueness.

Never even knew about PAM's until I joined here. I don't think they're as popular in the states...

So you've never watched Expendables 1 (2010) and 2 (2012)? Those (along with Expendables 3 (2014)) were a Panerai ad campaign with action sequences.

If you never heard of Panerai before you joined here it means you don't know enough about watches to make assumptions on how popular they are in the states.

cos at worst you have WORKING 24hr GMT not sudden death GMTs

cos at worst we have 2 movements available for the same watch but no matter which one you choose thickness will be true to gen

cos all our reps function very well (ok minus rattrappante ?)

cos we have 40 / 42 / 44 / 45 / 47 mm reps exactly like their gen counterparts

cos unlikely a pam cost short of 1K, on the other hand, you get great watches for less than >200 so we are also more light hearted

shall i go on ?

The brand lost its way and relevance as my taste has matured over time...plus the reps got too good and so omnipresent (at least in Asia) so it's not even unique anymore, I see a dozen of Joes pretty much everyday, wearing those humongous 47mm submersibles...they just look silly on an average Asian guy so it doesn't help the brand’s image. I kind of stopped caring about Panerai about 3 years ago, and never looked back. Still have a few top-end, Marlin modded reps laying around but I can't even remember the last time I wore my 127...

But you care enough to drop in...nah...I'd say you're still a PAM guy at heart. We quietly await your return

I guess that it's sort of quiet compared with a few years ago where Pams were the most popular posts but being that there are less flaws or tells to complain and obsess about compared with many other brands I guess that pretty much explains it.

It's a sad by-product of so much progress from the factories. Not that I'm complaining. :)

If you think pams are common in asia then have a good look at rolexes. 7-8 out of 10 wannabes are donning one here in sg. Cant even be bothered to have a glance if its og or rep.

Awwww seems like i hit a nerve when i mentioned rolex. Thinking that his own petty insignificant obsession has anything to do with the real happenings in my country lol.

Living in the UK - I assert the same of you! I have traveled in Tampa, New York, Chicago, Texas, Alaska, and California and have NEVER seen a PAM in the wild. No judgments - just saying I may know what I have seen in my country a little better than you have...

I've seen 3 Pams in the wild during the last week and I haven't even been out much. I live in London, so on a night out I'll probably spot 10 or 12. Obviously no idea if they are real or not. So I'm afraid you're not in the position to assert anything of the sort.
