Why is 177 "best" replica out there? what determines what model is next???

Sorry for starting a new thread, and I apologize if this has already been answered here. I'm pretty new to RWI, but read some stuff. So here's my question, what makes the most recent 177 or 288 so great in terms of quality of replica? And who determines what model watch is next on that list? (i.e. will the 127 fiddy be next, or a 320 or 312?)

I've seen that the 177 is the"best" in terms of accuracy to GEN, just curious how that's determined?

Thanks again for your time

Itinerant
The CP is flush, and closer to gen, the CG pin is flush, and the CG is thicker, and closer to gen. I'm sure that someone else has a breakdown of all of the particulars, but that's what I've gathered so far.

As far as what's next, the dealers have been asking us what we'd like to see next. I guess when they gather enough votes for one model they'll send an order to the factory. I doubt it'll be the fiddy, most likely a closed case back model, since the movement will never be close to gen. I think the EL Fiddy will be as good as we'll get, unless you get one modded.

determined by the pam guys on the forum here, who will spot flaws before the pic is fully downloaded:)

Ok, so right now the only two that are close to the GEN are 177 and 288 and both are sold by which dealers? I saw that replicamake sells the 177, are they the only ones, or do all dealers basically get it from the same factory? (i.e. davidson, timedirect, etc.)?

how much did you read on the pams here? there are lots of good eps around, so you should think about what you really like and work towards that, rather than getting what is more accurate.
the improvements made on the recent rep pams, are things you can have modded on the older models too. (better crown guard, better crown and better AR) the great thing about the new ones is that you dont need to do as much work with to start with, but nothing is 100% accurate, not these new models either....

Well fortunately enough, I'm eying 4 watches, 177, 127, 111 and 320/312. Those are watches I like and would like to own....

Fortunately enough the 177 seems to have the least amount of work and there seems to be good reps of 127 and 111 that require no work either as it seems the reps have gotten so good that really only people in this forum can spot the differences, i.e. seeing differences in movement in display back.

I'm also interested in the 320/312 as I like the case and the new strap feature. I'm hoping maybe someone has a good rep of that as well....Once I find the best of each one, I'm hoping to buy at least two of them and hopefully get the rest...

So any recommendations on these models would be appreciated as you guys are the "veterans" so to speak, and I'm just a lowly rookie...haha

yea really its just than some of these new pams have like better lume, the cannon pin does not really need work. i'm sure that there is more there. look to the existing threads for waaaaay more info. really we are just expressing opinion. and the people here know a lot about watches, it is easy for them to spot flaws that people like me don't see. so really there is not an official "best" watch. really just improvements over time. i really agree on the buy what you want. there is not a rep that will be like a "real" swiss watch. even if you spend a pile it's never going to be a gen. so buy what you like and what you can live with. and the new line of pams 177/212 are really a great value for the money. i mean 200-300bucks for a really solid copy? great value in my opinion. good luck with your hunt

This is probably the best thread for this since he brought it up, which factory are the 312, 320 and 328 that use the A 35J movt coming from?

The same factory as the new 111 that doesn't have the c3 lume?

I'm guessing they aren't from the 177, 288, 253 etc factory.

177l is decent, worth picking up.
there's no 127 worth buying right now.
the 111j is decent, but it needs at least to be re-lumed.
there's no 320/312 worth buying right now.

things that make the 177l good:

proper titanium
very nicely shaped and sized crown guard
acceptable crown guard pin
decent crown guard level (roller ball)
decent crown (although the spacing to the case is suspect)
(note the rep crown is built with far inferior design vs. gen)
very nice dial, although maybe the top plate is a tad thin
-but the numbers are nice, the lsml spacing is nice, printing is decent
the hands are acceptable
both the dial and hands come superlumed from the factory
the case is much better than all previous cases in many areas
-the lugs, the strap "dimples," the bezel (notched), the fairly flush lug screws, etc.
the case also sports now a hex crown tube
the caseback is decently engraved with now running individual serial numbers
the cannon pin is raised properly and polished

that's enough of the details for now.

I'm guessing they aren't from the 177, 288, 253 etc factory.

they're coming from some junk factory that's ******* it all up.
they're terrible reps with junk movements that are nowhere near gen.
biggest problem with the 312/320/328/etc. etc. is that they run either
the p.9000 or a version of it in their gen form. meaning that the movement
the gens use is an in-house built Panerai movement, and there's nothing
even close to that in existence in the rep world.

so even if the V1 factory (the best current pam factory) makes these
reps, they'll still suck. maybe they'll have nice cases, dials, etc, but the
movement is going to be nothing short of a complete disaster. we've
been kind of arguing or whatnot with the factories about this for a while
and they've basically told us tough luck, no rep p.9000 movement, but
we'll see when the time comes.

I'll be waiting for some more closed caseback reps from the V1 factory as you call it then, which is alright because I need to save some money.

I'd like one of those 111s but I just cant be bothered modding reps and sending them away, if I don't like it as it comes I just don't bother with it.

Thanks for the reply guys...thansk MM for the detailed response!

So 177 it is...as for the 111, who has the best one that doesn't need major mods? which dealer would you recommend for "best bang for the buck" in terms of good quality asthetically and decent movement...

thanks in advance again!

005 is coming out from that factory soon, so you won't have too wait long.

and 111:
all dealers that carry the 177l also carry the 111j, so just order them at the same time.

there's only one 177l and one 111j, so you can't really pick the wrong one, just
make sure to get the letters right and you're good.

as for dealers, I'd go with Lay from replicamake.

Thanks MM, so you think the new 005 coming out will be better than the 111j? is the 111j not close to the GEN?

thanks for the advice MM...thanks for all the help

better in terms of?
it's all a matter of what you like.

but I'm guessing we're talking better in terms of closeness to gen.
then the answer is yes, and a pretty strong yes.

the new 005 coming out should be much closer to gen than the 111j out of the box.

two major reasons:

super luminova applied from the factory on 005 (111j has crap lume)
spot on correct case back on 005.
(111j has exhibition caseback with a rep movement that's an easy tell)

I'm going on a limb here, and this is just a guess. but I'm predicting the 005
to be one of the top 2 or 3 reps ever made to this date. I have faith that the
factory can get the dial, case set, and all of the details correct. I can almost bet
that any flaws it has will be very, very minor and few and far between, it should
be epic. those that have been asking for a good 005 (there are many) are going
to be incredibly happy. and the best part is it's going to be priced very reasonably.

In other words MMs is saying I should be getting Crocodile to make a strap to match a 005 because it already will be a done deal from Lay.
