Why are "what's the best subs?", "best datejust?" "best AP?" etc. the wrong questions to ask

Great post. When I first joined the forum I thought the flaming of new members for asking "what's the best rep" and similar questions was a little harsh, but after only a month on the forum I'm coming round to the view that capital punishment is probably the only appropriate solution. Ditto the posting of QC pictures. It really is the scourge of the forum.

Would it be possible (technically) to prevent new members posting until they have at least confirmed they have read all the key introductory stickies and learnt the basics?
"Forums are meant for exchanging opinions, not for listing everything that's prohibited from asking; otherwise, it's not a forum but a bulletin board, or, if I may be a bit sharp, a haven for certain individuals with superiority complexes who see themselves as an exclusive group where only those deemed better than them are welcome. In the overwhelming flood of topics, it's not always easy to find individual answers to questions on subjects that someone may have brought up and concluded long ago. Summaries can be made under individual sections, encouraging new members to participate with fresh or updated information."

I'm not a total newbie, but this is good reading all the same. On my maiden voyage about a year ago, I did, indeed, browse through 'near' everything relevant, and it paid dividends. This is a great site. To that, there can be no doubt!
