- i am in the same boat with you....do the math...i once won a Porsche P10 quartz chrono from Playboy germany.....value 2500 Deutschmarks back then. ok, sure nicely made....steel case back, real safire crystal, ETA quartz movement....latex band.....what doe it cost to produce the watch...let it be 250 !!
mark it up 1000 %....and sell it to exclusive customers.
you know what i did ? sold it ! got me a very nice Omega seamaster with swiss ETA 2824...that was years ago...and i still have the Omega rep running very fine....cost me 120 marks back then.
makes sense ?

Yes it makes total sense. I do believe 100% gen watches are way overpriced. You pay for a name not a product. JMHO

@Dawg....Like you, I can pretty much get whatever the eff I want: women, booze, drugs, cars, houses, watches, whatever. Well, whatever my old lady will let me get away with. Anything over $100k, I have to check with her. LOL I'm exaggerating just a bit.

I have several gens and an equal number of reps, though I used to have a buttload of reps but made a deal with the wife that I would sell most of them in exchange for a gen Glashutte for Christmas. Anyway, to make a long story short, I got into reps because a girl in a bar smashed my gen PAM and it cost almost a grand to fix. I was really pissed and thought reps were a pretty cool alternative....in the quantity over quality equation.

However, since buying the Glashutte, I'm really swaying back towards gens because of their perfection. I look at the GO's movement and just stare in awe at it's beauty. It really is stunning and I can truly appreciate the engineering and art.

Two cents......there you go.

I can at this time, but it is tough to justify when I have two kids always needing things. They have become much more important than my watches. Someday.

Gen Omega Speedmaster

Gen Fortis Pilot chrono

10 reps and counting-

Been wearing my Omega PO 45mm from Eddie lee for the past 10 days- I don't think the watch has lost a second in that time.

Wore my Davidsen Fiddy ona trip to LA last a couple of weeks ago- Got upgraded to 1st Class- I noticed all the other guys ogling the watch- which never happens with the gen Fortis!!

I like reps because

1) It's kind of Dirty- I like that it's sort fo this secret society

2) I own gens, so i don't feel like I'm being a Poser- I'm just spreading my money out wisely.

3) I like watches- On a daily basis a different watch design appeals to me- To buy one for $200 is a smarter way to scratch that itch.

4) I like a bargain- i bought all of my gens specifically because they were priced right- even the Pams were bought seriously under market- I just bought a 111G for well under $3k. But I also have a 111H rep I bought for $200! I can't say that the rep pleases me any less when I wear it.

actually... I have a gen Girard Perregaux Sea Hawk II Pro Ti, gen Hublot Big Bang Rose Gold, gen Cartier Dumont 18K white gold, gen IWC white gold Portuguese, gen AP rose gold Tourbillon (this was $120K). But I also own my own pharmaceutical company, my driver drives me in a Bentley, and I have a few Aston Martins for the weekend.

It's hard bacause all my supermodel girlfriends want a piece of me... and my stamina is only limited at about 7 girls a day; my wind ding starts to hurt after about 19 hot sex with 3 girls at a time for 7 times a day. Oh, did I mention that I also wake up to a full body massage by 17 virgins in the morning?

I'm flying to my own island for the weekend, where I like to collect reps and chat online...

wait... I just woke up :(

well... back to reality. Um, nope, I do have, however, a gen Concord, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, a 2 bedroom apartment, a lovely wife and a daughter. :D

The answer is: I'd probably get another gen for no more than 3~4K on a SUPER special ocsasion, but collect reps to satisfy my horology appetite :D

Sounds like we hang out in the same financial neighborhood. We should have a little GTG in Phuket or Nantucket while I'm between deals.

I think my problem is that I tend to agree with the over price argument. I do think the gens are way over priced and the watch does not justify the cost. Most are not solid gold you know. I think that most watch makers get their parts from the same manufacturers. I also think that most not all at the gen forum cant really afford the watches they have either. They either get a loan to buy or they spend money they have saved for something else. Then they have a smug attitude about it and look down on us. Maybe we are the smart ones after all.

I think you need to educate yourself a little more before making sweeping generalisations....your observation on solid gold doesn't hold truth......and a large number of companies get their parts from many different companies......with the exception of those manufacture who do almost everything in house.......Rolex being one of them....!

plus when you make sweeping statements such as "I can afford ANY watch I choose.....would that include nuggets such as a Tour de L'ile.....or a JLC Gyrotourbillon......if not.....then perhaps you should re-phrase in the manner of 'within reason'.......!

As for gens....I have a large collection of gens.......the most I've spent on a gen was $23,000 .....but I think it was worth it......other people's opinions don't matter to me.....( as you've already found out...).....!

I dont see how the admin allow you to stay here. All you do is cause trouble be little the admin and knock this forum. If you continue to stay i will leave because i dont have time for this aggrivation. If the admin are concerned about losing customers to the dealers here then they should look into getting rid of you.

TTK's 20 some odd thousand dollar watch or not, like I saying earlier, I also have a gen Audemars Piguet Edward Piguet Tourbillon in 950 platinum case. It was $145,800.00 before taxes and worth every penny.

I killed a few people for it, but it was worth it.

Then, I woke up in my 2 bedroom apartment, took a shit, ate breakfast, kissed my wife and baby, and went to work.

I am not thin skinned at all. you are used to pushing people around and it chaps your ass that you found someone that will not kiss your ass and it is killing you. not everyone repects you like you think they do in your wet dreams.

LMAO.....kiss my ass,,now that may be a fantasy of yours....unfortunately not one that I can help you with.....!

You've found out very quickly that I could give a rat's ass who refuses to kiss my ass......but you came on here...voiced your dislike of me.....which you are entitled to do.......just as I'm ebtitled to kick the crust off of your ass......there ain't no point in being all mouth and trousers if you can't back it up....and all I hear is whining......but you can always console yourself by buying ANY watch that takes your fancy....!

Oh wait a minute...that won't help.....'cos they're all over priced.....and guys like Chuck Maddox....who buy the genuines....well they haven't got a pot to piss in according to you......but hey....you're the smart one.....you've got it all figured out.....you'll just buy reps.....and not the genuines....'cos YOU do have a pot to piss in......ROFLMAO....!

I will let you have the last word. I know that gives you pleasure. I will just ignore you for now on. If you only knew how the majority feel about you here you would not be so smug. Good day sir.
