Hand-wind movement in 111/177 is practically bulletproof, why go for a 104 with auto ?? :)

Just a strange idea that I got. It´s gone now... ;)

Is there any difference in quality between the Swiss and the Asian 6497 movement?

177 or the 250 on a black strap from the dealer, goto heroic 18 and order a thick brown/tan/honey 24mm strap and Id choose the 177 over the 250.

You'll be happy w/ a 177 out of the box and its so simple it works with practically any possible strap.

When you order the new 111J or 177L there is no choice in movement, both are asian and will keep time pretty well ...
The 111J for instance has a nicer movement, the 177L better lume , but you can read all the differences in several threads regarding these two :)

i dont understand why the 250 has 3 votes and the 236 has none...

is it because the 250 is 20 dollars less?

Actually I did get the opportunity to choose movement: pam111 swiss eta 6497 1 st edition cost 260usd ,asia 6497 price 180usd ,the new edition 200usd for asia 6497-2

This is what makes me unsure. Which one should I buy?
It feels like the safest buy would be the 111 with the Swiss Eta 6497.
Am I right?

And is the Swiss worth $80 more then the Asian?

Which edition should I buy?
First edition or new edition?
New edition is $20 more expensive then the first edition.
But new edition only has Asian movement.

I have a couple of swiss eta DSN's ( 112 / 172 / 203a ) and to be honest if you have a display case-back there slightly nicer to look at , though keep exactly the same time as my asian 6497 pam's, no difference there, their both good movements ...
Some argue that you're better off with asian since you can not be sure to get what you pay for when upgrading to 'swiss' ...

When ordering a 111, go for the new 111J with asian movement, send it of for some lume order a nice strap and it's as good as it gets ;)

without spending a fortune ...

No love for the bracelet, perhaps? I'd stay away for the A7750.

I think that the daylight is a striking watch but would pick the 177. Simple movement, and by making a quick strap change to metal, a little dressier.

i can respect that...

i in turn have the opposite feeling for the ss bracelet...i like the presence it has and the heft too :)

That's an old message concerning different 177 , this is a new 177 ;) ....

My 177L from Lay is on it's way, couldn't resist any more ...

So the new 111 and the new 177 are equal quality now?

Yep both are 'super' reps ... for differences check out the reviews, ... mainly the movement, nicer in the 111J, but lume is better on the 177L , and some other small things, the titanium 177L is great ( can't wait to receive mine )

Good luck with your decision ... ;)

no.

yes, made from the same factory now

this is not true, they are not from the same factory (from what I understand
anyway)

this is a stretch, but pretty close. I don't think you can call either a super rep.
the 111j has pretty horrible lume and the crystal needs new AR.
the crown sits a bit out too far, and the movement has it's flaws.
the cotes de Geneve is wrong (although probably the best attempt yet).
the incabloc shape is wrong, the engraving is far too bold, and other,
finer problems.

the 177l is superlumed :) and the crystal is nicer. not perfect, but good.
its crown sits a bit too close and its movement has its own issues.
the cotes de Geneve is worse than the 111j, and its incabloc shape is wrong.
the op name is also too bold, and a biggie is the lack of a dagger in
the swan neck regulator, it's a sword instead.

I think maybe if you were to order the ones that Sead has modded,
then you might be able to call those super reps, but the movements
are too far off for me still to do that.

overall the 177 is a higher quality I think. below are Sead's prices for them modded:

111j 415 shipped and pped
177l 330 shipped and pped

he does the following mods on them:

111j
chiefs crystal with ar
superlume
crown brought a little closer
and little touch ups on polishing

177l
has new movement w/ engraved bridges and dagger swan neck regulator
the crown taken away from the case a little
notice didnt put new crystal on 177 because didnt have as much purple tint on crystal as much
as 111j but i think if u do than the sandwich dial would come out more pronounse and would not look as thin as it is

Is the movement a problem?
Is it considered to be a bad movement?

well not so much.
many of us had actually had problems with the 177l movement, like mine
showed up running 2 hours fast per day. another guy had one show up
with one of the blue screws unscrewed.

on some occasions the movement on the 177l will have omitted anglage.
which means the edges of the bridges are rough, they aren't beveled or
polished like they should be.

so there are things to look out for, but speaking in terms of reliability,
it's about as reliable as a watch movement gets, rep or gen. overall the
asian 6497 is about as bulletproof of a movement as is available in watches.
they're simple, easy to fix, very reliable, and trusted over time. I actually
feel better about having an a6497 in my watch than pretty much any
other movement available.

just make sure whatever dealer you choose gives you good qc pics before
shipping and make sure the edges of the bridges are finished.

I ordered my watch from Josh, and his packaging sucks pretty bad.
that's probably why my movement was damaged during shipping, and
had to be repaired by Katt, but usually you can expect a 6497 to show
up working perfectly and staying that way for a long time.

and by the way, the comment you highlighted was in reference to the visual
inaccuracies vs. the gen, not really the quality of the movement itself.

Thank you MMs for making things clear! :)
I ordered a watch from Hont about six weeks ago, which he didn´t have, so now he has my money, and that´s why I want to buy from him.

My 177 landed today, it is sick! I have had a 183 from Josh, a 089 from Josh, and 005, 112, and 113 from DSN. This one (aside from movement and I could care less about that) is friggin' amazing! On par or better than my 112 and 113 (and those were my babies).

Taking a few light mods and then the camera comes out tomorrow!

Pics to follow...

One day soon I´ll order one. :)

Thanks for the input!
I hope I get reply on my mail soon so I can order as fast as possible. :)

Lets say I buy a Daylight as well along with the PAM177.
What movement should I go with?
The 7750 or the 7753? There´s a $120 price difference between them!
Is the 7753 worth the extra $120?
