Ok, but why not shorten the lug ends? Or is this part of the vint look and feel?

Not part of the vintage look, just a characteristic of that case. It could be eventually possibile to shorten the lugs but a quite difficult job with uncertain results, imho not worth the pain. Better start off with a different case if that's an issue
