I'm a PM for a Plumbing and Mechanical company. I've never heard that terminology , and I've been in the trade for 20 years.

I guess then you learned something new today or its a jersey thing...we are referred to as mechanics..

Bmw and mauidave that is my job title whether you guys want to dispute that is your perrogative but it shows a total lack of disrepect for a fellow forum member, i answered your questions and what i got in return is childish responses. Did i just wake up today and call myself a plumbing mechanic, i live on the east coast so our terminology here is def different than the that of the west..please keep your thoughts to yourself and refer to the language under my name it applies to both of you..

I was born and raised in NYC. Second of all, when did I disrespect you ? I asked a question and made an observation. Don't be so touchy. Dave was clearly joking. Relax. Now don't bite your finger nails.

Plumbing involves mechanical equipment such as pumps, boilers, geothermal systems, hydronic systems,etc.. A person who works on such equipment is referred to as a mechanic.. I was born and raised in brooklyn i work for a government contarctor on a military installation my job title is lead plumbing mechanic.. When questioning the validity of someones profession and making childish remarks for me is a sign of disrepect..

Don't drink the water in jersey it makes you touchy, and easily upset.
That would make you a plumber/mechanic. If you work on mechanised equipment your a mechanic. If you plumb or fit pipes your a plumber or pipe fitter. But a plumbing mechanic just doesn't make sense. Bit like saying your a eye heart surgeon, if your a optometrist who also does heart surgery. Clearly eyes don't have hearts.

I have my journeymans card for plumbing and my degree for mechanical engineering i think i can decipher what makes sense, it doesnt have to make sense to you.. When i report to work on monday ill let all my coworkers know that you have changed their titles cause it doesnt make sense to you they are plumber/mechanics..im glad my position was clarified for me..what a joke lets just agree to disagree and end it at that.....im have a low tolerance for ignorance its not the water...

So you have a journeyman's card for pluming, and a separate degree for mechanical engineering. But do you have a plumbing mechanic degree? Lets agree to disagree then that's fine. You have cleared that up well.

I'm a senior master automotive mechanic of 19 years with a degree in automotive engineering, and fixed a crap load of toilets in my life. Never have the two crossed paths.

Except that one time I fixed the toilet in my motor home.

I have a degree in automotive mechanical engineering. And cars have plumbing so I just assume I get it automatically like you said.
