"Punk's not dead, it just deserves to die when it becomes another stale cartoon."I do agree, Jello brought the anarchic rawness to the stage which is the basis of punk!
As a very close friend of mine often said before his untimely death… “Punk is a feeling not a fashion”
But fast forward from the late 70’s to the present day… the gig was fantastic and Skip definitely nailed it, best gig I’ve been to in a lot of years.
I got to hang out w Jello in 1990. He was doing a spoken word in LA (Die For Oil, Sucker) and a buddy and I took multiple buses and skated for hours across the San Fernando Valley in 105 degree (Farenheit) heat to see him at CSUN. We were about 14 y/o. He was really nice to us and drew pictures on our skateboards w markers we had for tagging, Lol. I had a Youth of Today sticker on my deck and he laughed maniacally and drew devil horns and a forked tongue on the singer while he launched into a 30 minute rant about hardcore and straight edge culture (we were sober because we were kids). Great memory. I think it was before he was super addicted to heroin.
