What’s up with pams not being ‘as hot’?

Here is the structure of the V2. 3 layers - but the construction is different - the V3 being closer to the original.
To this end the number of different coloured layers is not as important to the look as the structure of those layers.

The V3 has a better carbon structure and is improved over the V2. I just with they had improved the case, as it remains the same.

Latest 616 has 4 carbon layers. I have the previous version with 3. The case still only has 2 layers though?

As a brand, personally I think going high end / luxury was the wrong call. They should have stayed below £3k.

As dead as the new rep releases have been I'm hopeful we'll see one of these one day...

Don't forget the 911!

Yeah, thats nice too. I just feel the larger face and fairly plain base look of Panerai lends itself to more complications..:

Sadly suitable movements are a problem when it comes to more complications. A lot of the time you end up with things like non-working power indicators.

Plain and simple is the beauty of Panerai, if you want complications go for Patek or JLC

Just my opinion dude, I like Pams with complications. PP / JLC - completely different ball park.

I'm hoping they bring back the hand winding PAMs...had I known they would have gone away I would have gotten on the stick better. Like you said, the 088 would sell well, the 000 too. Thinking about getting a backup 111, my v3 is 6 years old.

It may also come down to where you are from. Near me in the US I don’t think pam’s are talked about. I’ve never even seen one on someone wrist. In New York or Chicago it may be more common.

Luminors like 000, 005, 112, 113, 114, 088, 360, 390, 366 and Radiomirs 183, 210, 292...all of these were available a few years back...

Definitely -- I see PAMs in the wild from time to time (I don't live in a top 25 market but visit one or two per month) but they are usually older or "baseline" models like the 111, 005 or 183. I wear a PAM almost every day and never get much of a comment on it. What's odd is that a B&R or even a microbrand gets more comments. I think people are afraid to open their mouth on a VC, IWC or AP which I occasionally throw into the rotation, but maybe I roll in a more genteel circle ...

I know many of you guys won’t agree, but I would buy many PAMs if they were in smaller sizes. I expecially love the design of the 47mm models but my wrist can’t handle them.. :) :(

Tokyo
I see a lot of Panerai here in central Tokyo and they seem to still be quite popular. My local shops have a hard time keeping stock.

Still strong in south east asia
Although, as a fan from the first hour, i sold quite a few recently and left with only 3 very basic ones 44mm

47mm look out of place if you dont have a 8” wrist honestly

IMO they all look similiar with little variation. I do like the crown guard, but the watch is way too big

I could be wrong, but its safe to assume that the Rep market will mimic the trends of the Gen market. Towards the end of last year I began to read more and more reviews from Watch industry "fashionistas" and aficionados that stated current sales trends in the Gen market indicate a growing preference for smaller case sizes and increasing interest in vintage pieces which by their very nature are smaller, i.e. 39-40mm, at most. The demand for smaller case size would put Panerai at a disadvantage. I would suspect that Panerai is conscious of those trends and led it to release several offerings with their newer Due selections with significantly smaller cases which would have previously been disregarded by the masses.

I'm sitting in my car outside the post office, just picked up this little fella. Now tell me if it's hot or what? ;)

I'm actually surprised by the quality of the strap, it feels awesome, nothing like those shitty cardboard jobs of the past.

Panerai gens are not struggling haha. Reps are but I guarantee if they rereleased some older models like the 088 thousands would be sold again.

I agree

I deem that if the "old" discountinued super-reps like the 029, 088, 089, 365 and all the other ones produced especially from NOOB will be produced again, very good sales could be achieved

I do not understand the reason why after achieving very good quality on specific reps, these are discontinued. They could be an easy "cash cow", with no specific further investments in countinous improvement
