I have carefully started to piece together some tools, but haven't attempted to open a caseback yet. I got a nice set of screwdrivers (not Bergeon), but they're on a nice spinning wheel with replacements, some Bergeon oilers, a Bergeon rubber ball and air blower, but am waiting on a ton of other things. Peg wood, dust covers, movement holders, etc. I'm going to do this thing, but take my time. I can't wait to start the journey.

Great thread! Question re mainspring winders. Rather than risk dubious Chinese sets off Amazon I think I’ll just get the Bergeon handle and relevant barrel winders.

Are most Chinese movements / miyotas etc left hand wound springs? I suspect getting a Bergeon handle and 3 barrels (5, 6 and 7) should cover most bases for diy collection duties if they’re all left handers

Thanks for sharing the list, very useful to us "amateurs" looking to maintain the watches on our own 🙌

Does anyone know what size to use to open the caseback of the Daytona 126500? I have the classic set of 6 sizes but none of them fit. Thanks a lot

I’d suggest a rubber ball. I have the full set of Rolex opening dies and never use them unless a caseback is welded shut with wrist cheese.
