No problem! Well the build quality is excellent, I have had all the Carbotech (616) versions from the original V6F to current. This is definitely the nicest case set of all of them. Now not only does the bezel have the triple colour layers, but so does the crown guard and case itself. Not only does this make it more gen like, it’s also more beautiful as each layer reflects light differently. As you turn your wrist, some layers will almost sparkle while others will be matte, really cool effect, and this effect now applies to the whole case set. This thing really looks awesome in the bright sun!
Adding to this effect is the dial which reminds me of the texture of AP’s forged carbon cases, and again, reflects light differently depending on position and lighting.
At 135g, very light for such a large watch, and surprisingly wearable on a 6.5” wrist. In comparison, the VSF PAM389 is 168g and the VSF PAM382 is 185g.
As for the movement, it’s basically the same VSF P9000 V2 that’s been in circulation for over two years with no major complaints. On the 979 it’s nice they updated the bridges to “P9010” although it will rarely be seen on a closed caseback. Rotor noise is minimal, and the jumping hour hand works correctly.
As for flaws, there’s the question of marker colour. The rep definitely appears white to me, not grey. The gen might have more grey, but it’s tough to accurately compare with internet photos, you really need to compare side by side. For me, this isn’t enough to prevent buying as it’s clearly not way off.
Another small flaw, like all rep Carbotech cases, is the crown guard inscriptions “REG” “TM”. They’re a little too deep which makes them look very dark, almost black, whereas the gen inscriptions don’t appear so dark. It’s the first thing I look for on Instrram photos to spot a rep or gen for the 616.
Ultimately what you get here is the great culmination of V6F/VSF’s experience on working on Carbotech cases for 5 years and perfecting the P9000 series clone movement for 2 1/2 years.
It’s a refined, quality rep, definitely worthy of a buy!
Let’s hope the drought of PAM reps is over
