VSF Crown issues

VSF 116610 - Does anyone have an issue with screwing down the crown, and feeling some resistance like metal on metal grinding? When you wind the watch it is good, so the issue is only when you want to screw down the crown. I have tried with some silicone grease, but only used a small amount.
Any ideas? Perhaps using more silicone grease?

If there is a fix, I would love to hear it.

I have found this to be pretty common with reps. Almost all of mine are as you describe. Some have improved over time, but I believe the best option is a gen crown and tube modification.

I've experienced the same thing with a few case backs as well.

Yeah many rep crown and tube threads are poorly cut. The two pieces don't mate well due to excess material (bumps) or uneven threads. I always wind backwards with gentle inward pressure to find the proper start point. Sometimes you need to carefully force a cleaner path once you're certain you have it and there is no cross threading. More grease is usually not helpful, a little does as well as can be achieved. Cleaning the tube threads with Rodico and ultrasound cleaning the crown can help a lot especially after grease has been used. Little metal and debris particles can accumulate quickly.

That sounds interesting. Can you help me find that thread?

I have used some more silicone grease and compressed air to push it into the threads, and it does help, but only a little bit. The problem is as KJ2020 states that the threads are not good. I am pretty sure there is some very good grease out there that can to the trick. I will try to find it (it is dark red in colour (the grease) and very thick)).
I do not think that silicone grease is the answer - unfortunately

I would be careful using too much grease. you don't want any getting inside the movement if it warms up and gets liquid.

Sometimes the best fix might be no fix at all, buy a watch winder? Seems like whenever I try to perfect something I break something else.

This worked and it is much better now than ever before - still not "good", but way better. We are getting there! :thumbsup:
I always wind my mechanical watches, and I think the 3135 clone should be able to handle the use it was intended for! I am sure it will be fine (or at least I hope)
