Does anyone know if the PAM1404 movement (I thought I was told by someone on here that the GMT function worked properly on that one) could be swapped into the 1507 to get a proper GMT, or maybe some other movement?

Finally got her all put back together. I ended up ordering two crystals, one with AR (from Prof) and one without. After comparing the two, I prefer with AR, so installed the one from Prof.

The crown was a little rough, so I hit it very lightly with some 600 grit followed by a light polish and it turned out quite nice. Also silenced the rotor, though surprisingly this one wasn’t too loud from the factory.

All-in-all, I’m very happy with this one. I think I’ll keep it for a little while.

Were you able to just order the gen strap straight from Panerai?

I know this is not the thread for the PAM 1507, but I think a short review here suits perfectly.

Case & dial:

We also see here the standard VSF 42mm Submersible case, with one difference: this is a titanium case. I didn't weighed the watch, but it's definitely lighter than the 1579! But still the case is 1.5mm too thick compared to the gen.

We have one big surprise on the xtal here! There is no fish eye effect on the 1507 xtal! I think you can see it on the pictures below. I just wonder why this can't be accomplished with all the other 42mm Subs from VSF!

This blue sunburst dial is just amazing. The pictures can't catch the full sunburst effect. I think we know this dial already from a 44mm PAM, but it just looks great in real life. That's an absolute highlight.

On the other hand let's talk about the biggest flaw of this watch: the GMT function of the hand is only working by 12 hours, but the dial has a 24 GMT design. In my opinion that's really hard to swallow. The easiest solution would be, that you set the GMT hand 1:1 with your regular hour hand, so that both are running simultaneously.

We have also here a slight rotor noise which I also would rate with a "2". (1 = no rotor noise, 2 = slight rotor noise,... 5 = heavy rotor noise). And the rest is the same like the 1579 above: great Luna Rossa strap, which feels very comfy on the wrist and no instant date flip at midnight.

Summary:
Overall it's also a very nice VSF PAM 42mm Submersible, but if you can't life with the GMT flaw I would suggest to go for the PAM 1565 (at least it has the same dial).

Positive aspects:
- great sunburst dial
- no fish eye effect
- light weighted titan case
- great Luna Rossa strap

Negative aspects:
- GMT flaw (12 hours vs 24 hours)
- slight rotor noise
- case too thick (1.5mm)
- date flip not instantly
Thank you for the awesome review, eagerly awaiting mine from Andrew! Really bummed the GMT does not work properly.

So the 1507 doesn't have GMT functionality? That's no good :( One of the reasons I love my 1404 and it's my go-to travel watch now.

Love to hear that about your 1404! Really confuses me as to why VSF didn't just use that movement for the 1507???
Of course! What would you like to know?

I absolutely love it and so far it's been great. I always wear it when I travel and it's not let me down yet. However the mismatched "power meter" on the back annoys me every time I see it.

I'm still searching for a good strap replacement. The stock one gives me a rash after a few days.

It's been pretty good for accuracy - about +5 to +8 a day depending on temps. Power-wise I've never had an issue with it running down overnight if I take it off. It made me want a gen really bad.

Here are a few pics from the day I received it.

1507 is real GMT, what you might be confusing it is with the fact it's a 12hr not 24hr GMT per gen due to movement limitation so the internal bezel is wrong.

Somehow, someone is misinformed. Not sure which of us it is. Here is what I was going off of:

Based off of this, the Bitempo is a 12 hour GMT or rather just a second hour hand, whereas the 1507 is a true 24 hr GMT for GEN.

Thanks for the info Dave! I guess I was misinformed on the BiTempo/1404 working properly. It does in fact work properly as a 2nd hour hand GMT. Somehow, I had never seen or heard of 12 hr GMT until now. Really seems like I made a mistake in purchasing the 1507 if the GMT movement does not work properly like the GEN.

Interesting discussion on 12 hour (or dual time) vs 24 hour GMTs if interested
