I've used a very light touch of shoe polish, then really let it dry in so it didn't come off on my clothes.
I've read that shoe polish can dry out leather, so not sure what the long effects on the skin could be???

Stitching seems to be a problem with these makers. Thin thread, big and small stitches in one run and some are wobbly. Obviously don't use pricking irons. I have three coming that I custom ordered a couple of months ago and on second look after they'd been shipped, the one I was looking forward to the most suffers from big and small stitches.

Yeah that's my main problem with the strap for my AP. Amazing hornback quality, but poor stitching. Wonder if I can get it restitched locally?

Should have my AP back from service this week so I'll post photos of the strap on it.

There are certainly some terrible examples here. But the seller I use does very good, high quality and even stitching.

In my enforced rugger playing days at school, we used to use stuff called dubbin on our boots:

I assume it's still available, though I escaped from the rugby pitches long ago...

Got another excellant strap from VNHandcraftart - but the guy forgot to put holes in the strap for me --- damnit! lol

Anyways - can anyone recommend a strap maker based in conus that I could send this strap to, in order to get the holes placed properly. I have taken it to a local guy who uses an old strap punch tool that is not very even and does not leave pretty holes (Rather sloppy) so i chose not to do it with him. I think i would prefer to pay a little more and send it to someone who can line up the holes properly and make them nice and pretty for me. Please let me know if you guys could recommend someone. Thanks so much

read a few pages back there is a tool on ebay for punching holes in watch straps yourself

Yea i know - i think i was the one who even posted that lol - but i would rather have someone do it a little more professionally than i can. This one is missing all of the holes (Even the one for the clasp on the short end) so i want it to be neat and linear and dont want to make any mistakes, so i would prefer to send it out instead of tinkering with it myself. Any thoughts on CONUS based strap smiths who would be able to take care of this for me?

Why don't u just punch one hole for the watch? You won't be using the other and you'll enjoy the leather more. I'm planning to do that when I get my first strap. Just my 2 cents.

i could do that - but what about the short end that fits the clasp. How would i go about neatly cutting that hole (really a small rectangle) out

Buy some tools from eBay, including a small rectangular one for the buckle.
