Hi guys,

Been a member a little while now, but this is my first post. I'll get straight to the point.

I placed an order with PTW for the Breitling Super Avenger (BEZ). The watch was recieved in great time, clearing customs easily, I was very happy!

Yesterday was the first time I really took a good look at the watch. Two major problems:

1) The stopwatch (which is the second hand on most other watches) will not reset back to zero. This occurred yesterday when showing the watch to friends. Again, very embarrassing. This shouldn't be happening to a 5 day old watch, right?

2) The finish on the bracelet links (just below the lugs) are very poorly finished. They are not smooth at all. They are pretty much the main links you see when looking down at the watch. Both very annoying for me and clearly an issue when trying to pass it of as a gen.

Of course i naturally contacted CS at PTW as soon as I noticed this issue. I outlined the problems and the fact I would like a replacement to be sent out.

The response was that I would have to take the watch to a watch smith to be repaired myself.
Secondly all the bracelets are the same - it's normal that they are all so poorly finished.

Guys, I have no experience in what to do in these situations. It seems clear to me so far that it's going to be up to me to get my watch repaired myself, at my own cost and most importantly at my own risk. Watch repair centres DONT like reps in my experience.

Apologies for the negative post.
I was planning on reviewing the watch on here ... but since these issues it's not going to happen anytime soon!

first off, its a rep, so you have to have realistic expectations since you pay so much less for it than the genuine article. secondly why are you trying to pass it on as a gen? and lastly chronos are fussy as in u need to take care of it properly.. do some research on the forum mate

It's not that i'm trying to pass it off as a gen per se ... but it's not much use owning a watch where the chrono doesn't sit at zero after owning for 5 day's.

I'm well aware of how to look after a chrono. This is a faulty chrono!

my subdail at six resets but drifts off.

to get that fixed send it to a watchsmith from the forum...not a AD
second I wouldn't worry much about the finish relax mate

anyway it jsut looks like you were running the stopwatch and it stopped.

What happened to their warranty? Did they decide not to honor it? I just placed an order for a PAM299 with them. I never would have if I believed their warranty was useless. To me it's not about rep or gen, when you spend 300+ on a watch there is a reasonable expectation that the seller will stand behind it. Especially if they have a reputation to uphold within the collector community.

How much was this rep?

Are you referring to Precious Time?

Run your chronograph for an hour, then stop it at 5 minutes to TDC (Top Dead Centre), then reset.

If its still not resetting to 12, then its a simple case of removing the hand, and refitting correctly.

As to the finish of the bracelet, this again can be fixed by yourself, its all part of the fun of this hobby, fixing the niggly things. Cap Cod cloth may help depending on the actual finish.

I'm referring to PureTime Watches.

I just had an email back from them saying that they would be happy to take a look at the watch, providing i send it back to them in China. If i can't sort this, I will send it back, but of course it's going to be a bit of a pain considering I'll have to wait for them to receive, repair (or replace) and then send back to me. Around a month i'd say.....

The rep was about 300USD. I bought it under the pretences that it was one of their 'HIGHEST QUALITY REPS'.

I have literally used the stopwatch about 3 times. On the third it breaks - not ideal.

Three questions ...

1) If i ran the stopwatch till it moved round the face once, landing on 12 and then paused it (not reset it) at 12 - would this damage the mechanism? Obviously it's not ideal.

2) SSTEEL - when you say 'Run your chronograph for an hour, then stop it at 5 minutes to TDC (Top Dead Centre), then reset' what exactly do you mean and should i do? Sorry if i'm sounding a little retarded.

3) Can anybody point me in the direction of a repair centre, or where to find one? In the UK would be nice ...

Thanks

its safe to say for me at least that chronos on a rep is just for show and not to be played with unless u get it serviced i think. one of the board members here is a trusted watchmaker in the UK in one of the sections here in the board

I'm not sure I agree Pannyforme.

Using a stopwatch function on a replica that's uses a cloned movement should be fine.

1. Start the chronograph (ensure watch is either wound, or power reserve is good)

2. Leave running for an hour.

3. Stop chronograph when hour sub-dial hand has moved, indicating one hour, and large chrono hand is at 5 to 12.

4. Reset the chronograph.

This may result is all hands resetting correctly, but if not, and the large chronograph hand is still off, its a case of you, or you getting someone on the forums who fixes watches to remove, and replace this hand correctly at the 12 position.

If you are in the UK, try Alex @ Watch Repairs UK, he has his own section.

the A7750 is a good mvt. sometimes hands are not installed correct, or the mvt itself has not been taken care of properly. in the end, when ylu have an A7750 powered watch, you should definately have a chronowatch that you can use as a chrono.
I have had issues with 2 out of 10 A7750 reps. not too bad IMO. and in those 2 cases, the problem is lacking QC or inproper installing work.

Ok great ... currently in the process in doing this.

As per attached image, i'm guessing I only have around 5 mins until i have to do this right?

So when an hour has passed, shall i wait for the large second hand to sweep around once more until it reaches 5 to 12, then pause the stopwatch and then reset?

Thanks again for the help guys! I'm still learning ....

Hi again ... just tried what you suggested SSTEEL ... but It didn't work.

I think i'm going to have to go down the route of getting this fixed locally, as i don't want to send this back to China.

First things first, you should never reset a chrono on a 7750 unless the second hand is stopped between 10 and 2. That reduces the chances of the hand slipping. This is the case for genuine 7750s too. Sometimes the reset pressure of the hand flipping back can cause it to slip.

Did you read up about caring for a 7750? Not resetting the hands outside of 10 and 2, not setting the date between 10 and 2 etc etc...

Secondly, this happened after 3 days, and it shouldn't. The dealer can fix it if you send it back, but if that's the only issue, a local watchsmith will fix it for a few ££.

Welcome to the game.

I have to disagree with others here and say that, in my opinion, the A7750 is a very dodgy and finicky movement and the chronos should not be run.
Personally I would run the chrono until the chrono second hand is straight up at 12 and stop it there. Do not reset it and do not play with it anymore.
The bracelet finish is poor on Breitling reps - yours might be a bit worse than many. You could try sourcing another bracelet and take your chances, or put it on mesh or leather.
Sorry for your bad experience. This is why I try to talk people out of an A7750 powered watch as their first rep.
