The sub $800 value tariffs were untouched in this "agreement" meaning June 1 there will still be the $200 flat fee.
Creative thought..TDs should value the rep shipment at OVER $800 to avoid this tariff šŸ˜†
But there is a still a 55% tariff on most China goods that are not under the section 232 Steel/Aluminum tariff; the initial 25% that has been in effect for a number of years now, the 20% fentanyl tariff and the 10% reciprocal. I would imagine it depends on how customs checks these if they would get hit with this or not.

The two new duty rates are now: 120% of the value of the postal item or $100 per postal item. On June 1 the rate increases to $200 per postal iteim. If the TD declares a low value the 120% might be cheaper than the $100 per postal item. How are the carriers going to decide which to impose? At any rate, I am not going to buy anything until I get a more definitive answer. I usually buy one watch at a time in case something goes wrong, I won't loose as much. If I buy two watches at a time it will cost $100 which is only $50 per watch. https://www.internationaltradeinsig...ty-rates-for-de-minimis-shipments-from-china/
Holy ish that’s rough.

10%, 30%, 140%? I'm still confused. Guess I'll just wait for delivery and pay the invoice when it inevitably shows up.

So are we clear to start ordering after May 14th ? And pay 10% import tax?

I know Axios reported that based on a ā€œWhite House Official,ā€ but I would hold off on believing that completely. At least currently, the $100/200 flat fee you are talking about applies only to postal shipments. There is no $100 or $200 flat fee applicable to non-postal service shippers like UPS, FedEx or DHL, who are responsible for collecting and paying the actual tariff rate (so that would appear to drop when the tariff rates drop, unless specifically excluded from the drop). Postal shippers also can elect to collect a reduced tax of 120% or pay the flat fee. The only real reason to keep the postal rate where it is would be if the postal systems cannot change the rate easily (which is very possible). So, keeping the flat fee and fixed tax election at current levels for postal shippers could happen (even though it would not appear to apply to other shippers). I guess that would mean FedEx, UPS and DHL would see a lot more business, and there would be a lot less going through the postal service. I would wait for additional CBP guidance before believing that result.

This Reuters article seems like a fair take on China’s realization about the need to negotiate, and the recent process in general.

One thing is certain, the futures market does not seem to think this is all nothing. I guess we will no more in 90 days. I am sure the roller coaster ride is not over.

Cheers.
That’s one, not very accurate at all way of putting it. The US rolled back its tariffs - because they needed to - and China matched the concession made by the US. I could go very much into the detail, but we talk about fake watches here. The bottom line is there is no trade agreement.

The de miminis tariff will now be 54% / min $100. This is not a good outcome - however hard you may try and spin it.

As to the last bit - when Trump does something stupid - by which I mean, when Trump does anything at all - the markets fall - when his stupidity gets rolled back, they rise again. That’s all the US markets are reflecting.

Yeah. Don’t agree with any of that. But OK. You are certainly allowed to believe whatever you want. (Note, though the 54% /$100 election - not really a $100 minimum — only applies to postal services. So use FedEx, UPS or DHL, and the tariff rate is just the rate. No choice to use $100). People misunderstanding how the ā€œminimumā€ rate on de minimis items works really misstates how this impacts items like watches (which of course will never be subject to tariffs at their real value, because they will be reported as ā€œstuff, worth $10,ā€ or some such thing), because the $100 minimum can be avoided by using a non-post office shipper. It is a non issue for this hobby.

I wouldn't expect you to, but the cold hard facts are that one side needed to resolve this a lot more than the other.

And someone really isn't very good at this economy stuff are they...

FedEx. DHL. UPS. All avoid the minimum. TBH, probably so does shipping through Singapore or Vietnam.

I am thinking maybe going to Andiot and taking advantage of their Customs Guarantee (see below), is the thing to do in any case. Just let them figure it out and let them take the risk.

Custom Guarantee

What do we guarantee if the package faces customs PROBLEMS or even gets SEIZED?

We are 100% RESPONIBLE for your package to PASS CUSTOM, if the package has been seized by the custom in your country, we will arrange a replacement to send again to you or refund you as you might change your mind to have it. (NO EXTRA CHARGES ALL INCLUDED IN POSTAG
We also offer resend and refund service for package in tracking that not updated for more than 1 month counted as lost! (AGAIN, NO EXTRA CHARGES ALL INCLUDED IN POSTAGE)

The reason we can offer you that is because we have well experienced delivery process from China to overseas knows how to pack and value the packages to you.

Anyone received goods since the Tarrifs?
If so how much did you have to pay ?

Got a watch 5 days ago (which unfortunately died two days later but that’s a different story). Had to pay tariff fees. Nothing absurd (25 bucks) but Steve refunded me the money as soon as I showed him a receipt of the payment and once the watch was delivered.

Who did you order from? What was the declared value?
