Travelling to the US with Rep Watch

Hey,

I will travel to the US soon. My question is, do I need to be worried because of US customs? I mean, if I wear the rep watch on my wrist, is it likely to get into trouble? I know, that within the EU, they are pretty tolerant as long as the watch is clearly for personal use. They would let you pass, even if you tell them it is a rep. But I have no clue about the US customs...

I am happy for everybody to share his/her experiences.

Thanks in advance

You're worried about nothing. Just wear your watch. Do you think that the workers will authenticate your watch on your wrist at a checkpoint for you?

Fake watch on your wrist? Non event. Even if laughably fake no US CBP officer will ask about it.

A piece of fruit, on the other hand...

they don't care what watch you are wearing, as long you don't have other watches in your suitcase

I am in China now. I brought 8 Reps with with me. They are always in my carryon bag. I head back to USA tomorrow. I don’t expect any problem. If ever stopped I will show them a photo of my watch box. This will certify I am a Watch addict.

Thanks everybody for the responses! After reading some horror stories in the web, I am happy to hear that this should not be an issue at all!
Cheers,

I would be careful about carrying 8 watches with me... You could get hit with a sizeable customs bill I imagine. However, having them in your carry on case should help avoid this.

Last trip I made to NY I was wearing a Rep DJ and was carrying my 2 watch box with my gen Tudor and a rep Railmaster in my luggage. I don't think having watches in your suitcase is any problem.

From what I know, experienced and a general rule, you can bring 2 or 3 watches with you for personal use whether these are reps or gens. This can be 1 you wear and 2 in your suitcase or carry-on. If you are bringing more than you should according to the CBP regulation, they will flag you (if they notice) and inspect the watches because they would think that you intend to smuggle and sell them without paying duty or going through a proper channel. This applies to not just reps but gens and other goods also.

When you come to the US, you have to declare what you buy/bring from overseas, and most of us lie. If CBP notice something in your suitcase or carry-on and inspect your stuff then they find your 10 genuine rolexes and lie on the custom paper, you may have to sit down with CBP agents for a while at the airport, and you will soon know their decision; it could be a penalty or it could be nothing. What if you brought 10 replicas into the US? Same; either they treat your 10 reps as gens or they may confiscate them because of illegal counterfeit goods.

Well the good news is, you will go through US customs with no problem (most of the time), but when your bad day hits, it could cause you a little trouble in the airport.

Are you saying customs law permits individuals to import say £100k worth of Patek’s into a country without paying tax? Lol

Try declaring more than £50 on your next international parcel and see what happens.

Or try carrying ....say I don’t know...boxed electrical items with associated high value receipts. Same applies for any luxury or expensive goods.

I think on my next trip I will tone it down a bit.

LOL.
Well, the trick to "smuggle" your collection safely back into the US is to spread them out. 1 you wear, 1 in your 1st carryon, 1 in your 2nd carryon (you're allowed two carryons), 1 in the right corner of your luggage, 1 in the left corner of your luggage, 2 in your other luggage (if you have two). The best is when you have your family travelling with you. Your spouse and your two or three kids can be your "accessories" smuggling whatever items you bring from overseas. LOL

Hhhhmmm... £100k worth of PP... that’s like three or four good PP time pieces - right?!? Yeah sure, I doubt if customs would say anything if one is smart enough to not have the watches “Boxed” up in the original packages with the receipts taped to the boxes. As I stated above, I travel with at least three watches and not one customs individual ever said anything to me. Now of course if one has 10 to 20 watches packed in a watch box... then yes, maybe that would be a cause for questioning.

Good info here - the same technique can be applied to the Mexican mud you'd like to import. Don't hesitate to use all those family cavities - they're there for a reason !
