The VSF Submariners Thread

Hey just another question. For a VSF sub, is the turning of the dial rigid? Or similar to a gen which is smoother. As I saw a few comments about a rep dial falling off or needing to switch the dial. Thank you!
On my VSF 126610, it was very loose. There were clicks but it wasn't as satisfying or tight as a gen. In fact, while screwing down the crown back in after setting the time after watch hasn't been used a while, I would move the bezel by mistake because my fingers brushed against it.

I got a new hyrtel ring from AE and swapped it out. Now it's tight and doesn't move by mistake. Not as tight as the gen I experienced was but still much better than how it came from VSF. A mod that was a must-do, at least on my watch.

Another thing was the flip lock wasn't as satisfying to use as a gen. It was also loose and packed a nice click when locking. I used pliers to squeeze it gently (wrapped the teeth in microfibre to prevent it from scratching when it slipped off the flip lock which happened many many many times). Did that many times since I didn't want to squeeze to hard to deform it. Now it's tighter (again, not as tight/clicky as a gen but a very good improvement) and the rep is absolutely worth it.

Are there any known dial printing issues with recent production batches of the 114060 no date?

Got some QC photos and the “officially” text looked pretty wonky. GL’d the watch, after discussing with the TD, but all the other photos I’ve seen look good, minus the known issues with the “certified” text.

I completely understand this is a rep and perfection is not expect. Asking more out of curiosity than complaint.

It's been discussed and it's nothing more than pixal distortion from digital processing and resizing.

Hello, thank you very much for the detail reply. And I will request for a hytrel ring change since I have read a number of times there are issues for this.

Do you know for the flip lock issue is it common for this model of rep? Or just happen on yours.

Yes it is truly worth it from what I can tell. Just trying to make it more perfect. Thank you

I doubt a TD will do it for you. But no harm in asking. I bought a gasket from AE and did it myself. Worked perfectly.

And regarding the flip lock. I asked a few people who have Q66 Subs like mine. Some of them said theirs was loose. Others said theirs felt tight (though I'm not sure since what felt loose for me could have been tight for them). I also googled it and apparently it happens in gen Rolex too. And Rolex tightens it exactly like how I mentioned (using pliers to squeeze the flip lock gently).

Here is my VSF 116610 ive had for 6 months now. I love it. It has a gen crystal in these photos for ref.

I also sourced a gen date wheel, bezel, dial and hands and it is currently with a watchmaker whos swapping everything out so I cant wait for a superfranken.

Congrats on the watch, it is wonderful.

Regarding the Gen parts, where did you source them? I have the same 116610 and I am interested in changing the dial, date wheel and crystal.

On the other hand, do you think it is worth making these mods? Do you really notice the difference?

I found the Crystal on Rolex forums.

Found a credible parts seller on this forum and got the dial, hands and bezel for a steal.

I thought why not. I haven't attempted a project like this before so I thought i'd give it a go.

Forgot to add date wheel was from here too.

I would say the stock datewheel, you can definitely see the the imperfections and rough paint/lettering. Crystal change is noticable as well imho.

Once i grab the final product, I wills see if it was worth it.

I would say a gen xtal and datewheel are the ones i would prioritize. The other parts are a bonus

I'd say insert is also a must that makes a big difference right away.

To be honest all gen parts make a noticeable difference but if you only go based on pics then it may not be that noticeable. IRL the difference is a lot bigger.

The bottom pic is my oldie 2010 gen.

Nobody is going to know it’s a rep by looking at it from several feet away. Even some of the most knowledgeable experts of reps wouldn’t be able to tell without closer inspection of these super reps. Most Gen owners and regular folks would be left guessing if you handed them the watch.
Sat with 2 lads on Friday who both have the date. One is now nearly 8yrs old!!!!! And the other got his last week.

All three bezel clicks are diff with mine being less tight that the virgins but tighter than the old boys 🤣🤣🤣 I will say the SELs on both were more flush than my VSF LN

Finally
It's the mercedes hands. They just have a slightly more golden hue and you can see the lume fill is diff on both gens

But - if I bought gen hands and sent it off for a bezel tighten...they'd have no clue 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽

That’s what I’m talking about. I’d get some hands and have some fun messing with my buddies. Every time a bartender or waitress asked who was paying it would be them. With all the money they have surely they can afford a few pints for their poor friend who can’t even afford a proper Rolex. Of course you don’t wanna mention the $15k you saved on your exlax watch until after they’ve paid.

Is VSF out of the game when it comes to GMT II Batman? Cant find them anymore at TD’s..
when I looked, the VSF was the only one with right color match(black and blue)
