Well Rolex makes the Daytona so simple and reliable that reps have better reliability than gen AP chrono
The gen 26331 movement (AP calls it 3285 cal) the isn’t perfect, that’s a known fact. There are a few known issues with it and these can be googled easily.
Even the 26240 royal oak chrono comes with its own issues, with the notorious one being the minute counter hand creeping on its own without the chrono being engaged at all, and also the watch not starting up despite over 100 winds of the crown.
I do agree that the movements aren’t reliable in the conventional sense but they are mostly functional and if you’re willing to see the chrono function as something decorative as opposed to an actual feature you’ll use, then they are mostly ok.
The chrono function isn’t a must to use, just like it’s never necessary to wear a luxury watch into water. There are proper tools and watches for those, and luxury watches these days are largely statements on the wrist for most. Out of the thousands of gen divers sold, I’m willing to bet that less than 2% of them have been worn for dive trips. It’s the same for chrono functions. If you need to time something then use a stopwatch or even the smartphone or smartwatch to do so more accurately. Heck, if you need to tell the time, the phone can do it better. Or a $20 quartz watch. Luxury watches are mostly statements and fancy adornments in this modern time and day. The movements are mostly ok if you leave them to tell the time and not spam the chrono too much. Just my opinion. Different strokes and all that.
True. However, I use the chrono function of my watches very rarely, irrespective of the watch models. The thought itself that I can use the chrono at any time satisfies me without actually using it.

Is it possible to put the Daytona movement in the AP? I don’t mind dials being off, just want a chrono better than AP can ever produce.
Do you mind the AP chrono not having a datewheel then, by having a Daytona movement in it?

Doesn't make sense - Even if you'd attempt such a stunt you would be better off putting a 2 hand movement with a small sec@6 and date complication in it, fix the center seconds hand and glue two sub dial hands where there is nothing underneath.
The missing date and sub dial spacing of the 4130 are the fundamental downsides of this idea - not to speak of crown/pusher height and the need for a custom movement holder. If it would be that easy - they would have done it long before we even thought of this idea haha
Back in the days JF made some Daytonas this way to achieve gen height by compromising the chronology functionality. People liked it - they were quickly sold out - had some reliability issues and were never ever be seen again after this period.
I'm not sure if the geometry of Daytona rep chrono movements (especially 413X) allows the proper operation of AP pushers and putting any existing AP chrono gen or rep dials on them.
So finally gave in and pulled the trigger with Aman to try the new APW factory version of the AP 26331ST. Decided on a white panda dial with his watch smith doing the gen polishing. I should have my QC in 5-8 days with the polishing finished 2 days later. Hoping to have this in hand within 2-3 weeks with FedEx. I'll upload pictures when I get my QC images. Wish me luck.
The main question is what the dimensions of the watch are. I guess it's thick as hell but we will see.
I was quoted by Popup 32,000CNY for a 26331ST build using a Cartier gen K2121 movement, a CNC case, SW dial, hands, and datewheel. Just not sure if I'm ready to spend $4,500US on a build for this watch. But I'm starting to lean towards saying yes!!
What does everyone think? LOLEven the rep factories are concerned about the dumb design/quality of a gen AP movement won’t pass their own standards -(with the possibility they may have to refund thousands of units at the TD stage)

Why not make it hollow instead?
No movement at all.
Just put in a little app-controlled motor to move the hands, so right before someone legit checks your new AP chrono, you can set it to the correct time and pray their legit check doesn't last more than 1 second!?!
