The Different Weights of Panerai Models/case materials

As I have a few Pam reps in various different case sizes and materials, I thought I would weigh them (heads only), to give other potential buyers an idea of the differences between them.

Here are the weights (courtesy of John Lewis kitchen scales! Haha).
All the below have the modified clone movements fitted. Although, I believe the 288 radiomir chrono is more basic 7750 without much/any mods done to the movement.

44mm Luminor - Titanium - display case back. 99g

44mm Luminor - Stainless Steel - display case back. 120g

42mm Due - Stainless Steel - display case back. 106g

44mm Luminor - Carbotech - Closed case back. 90g

45mm Radiomir - Composite (coated steel) - display case back. 116g

45mm Radiomir Chrono - Stainless Steel - Closed case back. 118g

So there we have it. The titanium 44mm is lighter than a 42mm stainless, and the Carbotech is the lightest of them all. Very little difference between the steel Luminors and the Radiomirs it would appear. Hope this might be of interest to some.

Many thanks! I am one of those who are interested in this and am glad that someone has more information on this subject. It's good that you had several 1950 44mm luminors., For comparing the same cases and from one factory.

Thanks.

Just worth a note that these are all VS factory apart from the rad chrono, which is the HF.

Your “45mm Radiomir - Composite (coated steel) - display case back. 116g” is a 505, yes? Mine, I understand, is dlc coated titanium. Certainly feels like it is weight wise. When I get a mo I’ll weigh it. (Though not sure my scales are John Lewis quality and accuracy, as they are real cheapies, think they are pound shop scales, can’t remember how much they cost.... :D)
I’ll weigh a 346 titanium for comparison.

Yes, it’s a 505. I’m sure other brands of kitchen scale are available! Haha

Only cast iron ones in our house, with various black cast weights and little brass bowl :D

No worries, mine are accurate enough ;)

I just happened to throw this on the scale the other day while talking to someone about the weight.

It's the latest KW 569

Nice one.

Please, anyone, please feel free to add your weight photos as well, with a brief description of model/material/size.

Thank you, Hazing ! I am glad that the initiative has been taken up! When I put on 569 of titanium for the first time, I felt that it was the weight of a 44mm steel., Luminor. So it is, I was wrong on 5 grams ...:)

And a vsf 382 at 167

And this is interesting too because I saw and old thread where they showed the vsf vs gen poster and it had the Carbo tech case of the 1616 weighed and if I remember correctly, it was super light. Light 9 grams. The case back weighed more than 40. I was surprised how light it was but few people Comme eltrd how the carbotech is supposed to be so light. I'd think the 799 should be heavier because of the titanium but I guess titanium and carbon fiber have similar weights
Anyway, I have the

Vsf 1616 at 110
And the
Vsf 799 at 110 also.

I'll give you some more weights later.

My theory is that Carbotech models are heavier than gen because of the steel inner shell, versus titanium in gen. Also, I cannot rule out that the material itself may be heavier, due to the difference in the composition of the binder polymer. In any case, the most severe will be bronzo. Or does someone 187 want to argue with him?

No steel inner shell on my carbotech 44mm luminor. And as above, definitely my lightest Pam.

Does anyone have a 193 they can weigh? I sold mine many moons ago, but that may be the heaviest of all PAM reps. The gen is titanium (as is the 225), but with the rep in stainless, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s approaching the 200 gram mark ...

Here’s a few of mine for comparisons.
In weight order:

292 Carbontech
177 titanium
346 titanium
249 steel (surprise here)
212 steel
Another surprise, as it always feels heavier on, due to its size
My 505 (assumed titanium and DLC coated)
A cheapy
....and weighing in at...
Not that that will be going on my wrist.

So, Rik&Eddie, your 505 at 116, is heavier than mine at 105, not a lot in it, but I’ve always assumed that mine was the described DLC coated titanium, though it’s a fair bit heavier than a 346 titanium. No doubt most of that heavier weight difference comes down to the movement being automatic. Not sure what the composite gen weighs.

There may be a discrepancy here due to my cheap scales :D

very interesting. Thanks for taking the time (we all seem to have plenty of that during these virus ridden times?!).

Quite possibly right on the 505 thing. Cannot honestly remember what mine actually is. Fairly certain it’s coated steel.

About 20g difference between the titanium and steel 44mm Luminors that I have. That could also be due to different mod plates on the movements possibly?

My 505 is VSF too. Intime’s description is: ‘DLC plated titanium case to the color of Panerai Composite’.

The discrepancy may be my scales :p
