I believe I'm interested in getting a single cup coffee maker. I have no idea which ones are worthwhile. Suggestions would be appreciated. Or more precise suggestions under $100 would be appreciated.....

Hey Higgy, go to Capresso.com if you want the best in coffee makers. This is no rep, it makes the ultimate in a cup of coffee and that's my thang. Every morning it's an expresso for an eye opener.

What's wrong with cheap and easy? An Italian tradition tried and tested for 70 years, and miles better than the electronic cr*p! You'll even have $80 change to get a few months supply of decent freshly ground coffee, and you won't look back.

So if I understand you, I should drink analog coffee and stay away from the new fangled digital coffee..... hehehehe

I learned quite alot about how to be a man, a gentleman, style, food, drink, etc. - the good life if you will. Frank Harris, the owner of the establishment, used nothing but a French Bodum. IMHO, you wouldn't be doing anything wrong by visiting bodumusa.com. They get all of my business.

Couldn't agree more! As a former chef, I can tell you that it is hard to beat a french pressed cup 'o joe. My capp machine just sits on my counter most of the time like a $500 piece of kitchen sculpture. My daily brew is french press.

(added bonus if you're a caffeine lover: If you fine-grind your beans and hot brew them for 4 minutes, your coffee will be like rocket fuel)

Thanks for all the replies guys..... After much thought and deep consideration, or maybe I fell asleep
i'm not a coffee aficionado. I just want a cup every now and again. And since I don't have anyone here to make it for me... I need it to be extremely simple. I'm going to spend a bit more than $100 but it looks like it meets all my requirements. So I'm going to go with the Kuerig B60. Thanks again for the replies, didn't realize coffee was so complicated. Used to be, Mr Coffee drip with Folgers!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

I know you already made a choice but I had to chime in here. I worked in the coffee business for 16 years with a small family coffee business out of Baton Rouge called Community Coffee. With so many ways to prepare a cup of joe the first question should be How do you drink your coffee? I saw a few espresso recommendations which is an entirely different animal than a brewed cup of coffee.

Almost all coffee makers will accomplish making a pot or cup of coffee. As others have said, and I agree whole heartedly, a French Press is the best of all worlds. Here's a small tutorial on French Press that explains the process. http://www.ineedcoffee.com/99/05/frenchpress/

Its a little bit more involved than other drip machines but once you had a cup using good quality coffee (read not Folgers/Maxwellhouse) you'll wonder why you brew it any other way. The other up sides is that you can control how many cups you brew and cost for a good french press is around $20 - $50.

Thanks Happy,
But not for me..... I don't really want to get the stove involved in my coffee process. And the tutorial pictures show the person using two hands to make this coffee. I only have one hand available to me due to a stroke. So super simple and safety are very high priorities. To get a feel for what I go through, put your non-dominant hand in your pocket and try to do your normal daily tasks...... Be prepared to drop a lot of things...... Your hand in the pocket prevents cheating..... Simple tasks become quite a chore and challenge. Theres no way to simulate my ineffective leg. Worrying about falling down all the time adds to the fun.....

I believe I have figured out what will work best for me!!!!!!!!

But thanks for the input.....

Great choice with the Kuerig, I own one and love it! I have tried many single cup brewers because I was in the coffee business a few years back and this one was the best one for price and size.

Enjoy, it does make good coffee.

Higs,

You got to go with the Phillips Senseo. Excellent coffee and very easy to use. My personal favorite is the vanilla bean pods for D. Egberts or the Folgers Colombian. Cannot go wrong.

Higgz, I wish I'd know this sooner....we have a brand new Krupps that will never see use, because my wife decided to purchase a damn Cuisinart auto-grind model.

Higgy,

Now that you have the hardware, you are going to need some software. Check out this URL for the best coffee on the planet:

http://www.ravensbrew.com/

If you need an eye opener, try the Resurrection Blend, or the Dead Man's Reach. I personally like the Three Peckered Billy Goat blend.

Yes, you read that right.

Here is their description:
Got Goat? Get it! One of our three most popular selections by professional baristas. Velvety mouthfeel and superb body. Uncanny high notes of fruity sweetness on top of a dry-chocolatey flavor base. Explore the exotic effulgences of Arabia and the spicy redolences of India as you stroll your palate through fields of wild flowers and citrus groves. An epiphanous panoply of flavor in liquid-jewel form. Crudely named, but aptly famed. Dark Roast.

A brew that is too placid
may leave a billy flaccid.
But three willies on a billy,
is that too many for a nanny?
If not, then your billy should sup
from the cup that keeps him up.
So fill his cup or apply as a lotion,
then enjoy his three-stroke motion.

Seriously, Ravens Brew is based in Alaska, and they make the best coffee on the planet. You have to taste these coffees to believe them.

I wanted to start a thread on "How do you make your coffee?" and instead of making a new thread, I found this one. ;)

I like using my single cup brewer........
