Interesting how some of the higher end subs tend to have a bit harder time being waterproof......All the noob subs I ever had were WR, because the crystal gasket was a simple press in, I have had 2 TCs leak because the stupid crystal gasket sometimes warps when the bezel assembly is pressed down.....go figure. If you plan on swimming with it, get it tested first, no exceptions

InTime will pressure test your watch and send you QC photo of it. I believe to 5 atm. That's 50 meters.

When I bought the Sub from pure time what I did first I put them into the glass filled up with water. Nothing happen. Still running without problems.

And same with Pure-Time, they will pressure test your watch and send you QC photo of it. 5 atm (50 meters). I have dived with a rep (Rolex Yacht-Master - higher grade) many times to 50 feet and never had an issue.

Test-driving the Seamaster 300 coax this late afternoon. This already had all seals greased when I first opened it up - surprise.

Ive never understood the desire to swim with a rep. Rain, splashes of water, washing hands sure. But why would you want to go swimming with it?? Makes no sense.
Makes a lot more sense than going to the beach/pool and taking off a supposedly water resistant watch!

TB, I understand that in which case its makes more sense to me to just wear a watch suited for that purpose, but not a rep which isnt made to be a drive watch.

Other divers also "dive", stopwatches and dresswatches normally don´t and the AP´s have too many screws (potential leaks)

Eh, as long as you grease everything up, I wouldn't worry about getting an AP diver wet. The 8 bezel screws don't actually intersect with the movement compartment so it doesn't matter if it gets wet. The movement is sealed off by the bezel assembly, caseback, and crowns.

So I should just leave my reps at home to look at? Not much point in owning them then is there?
I'm not saying use 'em to dive with, that would be dumb but if I can't swim in what is supposed to be a tool watch then there is little point in owning it IMHO.

the newer subs which are made for suits - two tone gold subs, solid gold subs and white gold smurfs, i doubt many gen owners would actually wear them to a beach or pool... as for the watches made in stainless steel, makes little sense to remove before hitting the pool...

If you can open the back of your watch, then you can seal it. Here is a tip on what grease you can get anywhere. LipBalm. In stick form. Yes it works. Not exactly perfect like a proper grease, but hell it works very very well. And does not harden or soften in a broad range of temperatures. And clings good on the silicon seals and stainless parts. And safe for any rubber, natural or synthetic. Many jewelers use it. They never ever show you. But when you are gone, bam ! They look left and right, and they wip it out from a hidden compartment and rub-a-dub the stuff to the watch seals and threads. You can also grease-up the crown 'O' ring with a childs little soft toothbrush 'poked' into the lip balm stick. If you are handy, you can do the crown stem to by pulling it out on time setting mode. Put a lot on the stem, the inner crevice or hollow of the crown by using your tiny toothbrush, so when you push it back in, it will grease up the inner mini 'O' ring inside the crown tube wall. No grease will get into the watch by the greased up crown stem. The inner mini 'O' ring prevents that . Always make sure that the caseback is nice and tight after that. Snug is not the word. Tight is the way.......Don't worry, if its good and safe for delicate lips, hell its safe for your Sub and 'O' rings !! ............. In regards to not knowing if your crystal is set down all the way tightly, well here is another tip. And no, you wont break your watch, crystal or anything. Get two thick telephone books, lay the first one on your floor, lay your Sub or PO down face up on the first phone book. [remove the bracelet first] then lay the second phone book on top of the watch. [best to use phone books with ripped out cardboard covers][you want a soft but stiff surface to spread the downward pressure while you sit on it] Now slowly squat down and sit on the phone books. wait a few seconds. Don't twist. Just sit. Make sure to center your butt smack in the middle. Now lift up your butt slowly upwards and remove the first phone book. You are done. And safe too !! No harm done, even pressure exerted all over, and no over leveraging to worry about. Slow and easy does it.

Thanks a lot for the info. (Is this really Your first post since 2013?). Simple and logic and I´ve seen it so many times, but never associated it to the screws just being parallel to the movement compartment. Somehow Hodinkee´s post from long ago, even before getting the AP diver, always came haunting me back on this one: "100 feet underwater isn't the best place to start wondering if you’ve properly screwed the crowns on a $17,100 mechanical timepiece. I had double- and triple-checked the seals and springbars back on land, while suiting up for a dive on the Hilma Hooker wreck in Bonaire, but just to be sure, I gave them another twist. I descended the sloping reef"

This tip comes right in time for Summer, thanks a lot - I think my diver will be getting wet after checking it up:)

P4GTR, relax and dig your panties out of your crack, lol, if you've convinced yourself that a rep sub is as good as a gen or even equal then I will believe that you believe that.

My delusions are way better than my reality, just let me enjoy them will ya?

I am able to assess whether a watch is capable of swimming (not diving). One day, you will have the skills to pop a caseback off and see what a gasket looks like too, don't worry bud.

Just take it slow. Maybe start with a book about watches you can understand...

You're aiming a little high there for sub. Why don't we start him out with this one, see how he does.

finally requested my hulk noob V5 from intime. asked them about the pressure test QC. i wont be going diving but i want to be able to wear my Hulk when im in cancun in the pool and during the summer at the beach and pool parties. Like the Boss said, it would look very strange if I take off a diver watch to get in the pool. that would be first giveway it's a rep. i also have a TT rootbeer gmt. can that be waterproofed too? i assume so. what about a pam 390???
