The OP mentioned that the burglar left some items behind, I'm just saying that could've been intentional. Maybe I'm wrong, just speculating.

I get what you're saying, I just can't think of a reason why a burglar would do that. I'm not a police officer (or a burglar for that matter), so it's probably my naivety, but I'm struggling to think of a reason why a burglar would intentionally leave something behind. Why do you think they would? I'm not teasing, I just genuinely wonder why they'd do that?

Seems dumb to fake leave behind something, but also seems even dumber to actually rob someone and leave behind a bag with a receipt and fingerprints…

If you're planning on doing any reaching out, any identifying information you have available, such as the serial numbers etc. Would be good information to pass along as well. I understand they are replicas however, a lot of the high end replicas have serial numbers based off of real watches. Also, it's unlikely that someone would be trying to sell that model in serial number watch in Barcelona area at the same time or adjacent to you having one stolen. Just thoughts. I hope you are able to have some level of recovery of your possessions

Assuming it wasn't actually an error, it would be to mislead/throw off any potential investigation. Imagine waiting days or weeks for cctv footage, or a response from a banking institution just to go down a dead end by investigating someone who had no connect to the crime. Then again, I could be wrong. It's pure speculation.
To make it look like it was opportunistic local junkies who did it rather than “professional” thief gangs?

I am keeping expectations low, and assuming all of my belongings will never be recovered.

Man so sorry to read this - I live in Barcelona too and am always careful when wearing certain watches whilst out but having your home broken into is a horrible experience. Hope you get them back!
I was robbed in Paris in my car, in a paying car park, a vintage Universal Geneva watch. I made the statement to the police. Shortly after, I found the trace of my watch. It had been sold ,on the Internet, by a German online store, for €3700.
I contacted the seller,with pictures of the watch, proving beyond a doubt, that it was this watch.
He said,that he had nothing to reproach himself. All I had to do, was contact the police ,and that he would give them all the information. I contacted the German police,and they refused,to accept my complaint.End of story.

That's not how German law works and it's a flat out lie. Germans are very strict about stolen items.
When you report a stolen item to German police, they take the item, keep it in storage until without a doubt you can prove it's yours. The seller does not get the item back, because we have a law that states basically "not knowing it's stolen, doesn't keep you from being persecuted" or however you spell that.
If you sell a stolen item and cannot prove it isn't stolen, then you get charged for "Hehlerei".
And no serious business would risk that.

I traveled to Aachen, to the police station, to explain the situation. They told me verbatim, for a watch, we don't care, if it was a car, yes. Probably they didn't want to deal with it. As I insisted, they began to be threatening.I preferred to stop.

That *totally* how it works. Germans are complete and utter idiots when it comes to pursuing things like this - i must know it, I'm one of them. Unfortunately, may i add.
