BTW guys the Japanese sellers on chrono24 are amazing, always undervalue the condition. They listed mine as “good” because the box was damaged, the watch itself doesn’t have a scratch on it, despite being made in 2008! Just keep in mind they usually can’t ship alligator leather straps, so order one with a bracelet or just forget the strap and ask for the deployant clasp.

This is my second import from Japan, very happy with their dealers.

Back on the OEM / gen nylon it came with since I picked the watch up last year... For half a day. Now it's back on an aftermarket Nato. 🤣

Thank you!

And yes. I've been intrigued by those Japanese sellers as well. They have so many amazing watches that look like they're in much better condition than they listed (going by their photos).

Makes me want to make a trip to Japan just to check out the watch scene and find some good pieces.

Yeah I enjoyed the purchase, no issues. I've bought a gen in the US and now this one from Japan off Chrono24. The import process was pretty easy but it was not seemless. UPS called me and I had to call them back and give them my information, and then pay a bill online (~$150) for the import fees.

Overall though, you can see in my picture I posted, it was listed as "good", yet the bezel has 0 scratches on it, it's pristine. Even the case has only one super thin scratch on the shiny polished edge bit of the case, but nothing that couldn't be polished down the line, and only visible in really weird angles when looking directly at it. The crystal was spotless, not even micro scratches. All the other ones that were "good" had more scratches and imperfections, I believe the seller should have rated it Very Good at the minimum, but it's almost NOS (or maybe the previous owner had it serviced, not sure, didn't state in the ad). The seller stated "no visible scratches" and indeed, even that minor one I mentioned is not visible under normal viewing conditions.

Few cool things about this model compared to the normal speedy pro is that the subdials are outlined with a steel ring, and the subdials DONT touch the markers like they do on the pro, they’re laid out a wee bit different, probably to look good with the 4th subdial (the moon phase). The moon phase is a treat to look at, it reminds me of the JLC MUT. It would be cooler if the stars had lume though!

Speaking of gen vs rep lume, the brightness of it is pretty similar. The longevity of the lume is not, but it’s also not really great on gen.

The thing with the lume on the gen is you can see it after like 2 hours, but it will be very very faint. On the VSF (seamaster for instance) it will be totally gone. So it lasts longer, but it’s pretty much pointless anyways. The peak brightness of the gen and rep are about the same, I’d say 20 min or so.

Comparing the finish and polish to my aqua terra rep, the finish on the gen speedy is noticeably nicer, and has really smooth reflections. It reflects light in a “dramatic” fashion, it really seems to catch all the rays, while the rep is like any other shiny object. I’d say it’s 25% better than rep finishing.

Movement wise, and considering this is a display case back, it’s night and day to any of VSFs movements IMO. The engraving quality isn’t that much different though, but the finish is way better on gen, everything is pristine, everything actually works, no non-functional decorations/gears/etc.

Overall I’d say gen Omega is probably worth it. Definitely for the Speedmaster since there’s no real rep, and I’m conflicted on rep vs gen aqua terras. I think some of the seamaster reps are good enough though, but my next gen Omega would likely be the nttd, because the rep isn’t great.
