Hey all,

Just wanted to share my results of rehaut polish on a VSF 126610LN. I am pretty happy with the results, in real life it does pop more than on pictures, but I could have polished a bit more. I was worried about overpolishing it - there's a thread on reddit where rehaut was so overpolished, the letters started to disappear.

The VSF 126613LN does not have a polished rehaut, just to compare. Obviously lightning isn't totally uniform and my camera skills are subpar, but nevertheless, here are the results:

This was all done using cape cod, unfortunately I do not have my Dremel yet, I might repolish a little bit more when I get it, but I think it's quite sufficient for now, at least to my taste :)

Do let me know what you think

Its going to be really hard to overpolish with a cape cod wipe. You seriously have to sit there for an hour to do any damage.

However with a dremel and polishing compound, you can fuck it up in 3 seconds. So keep that in mind.

Thanks for letting me know, it seems like cape cod is a really good solution for this use case :)

Yeah just make sure not to over do it, the real pain with that isn’t that you’ll fuck it up, it’s that you’ll have excess polish on it which will affect its finish until all of it is buffed off (which can be really hard if it dries). Also remember not to use it on non shiny surfaces like the brushed sides of an oyster bracelet.

You didn't say if you removed the crystal to do this but if you ever try it with a dremel you should do so. There are some different dremel polishing tips that can be used. I have found that the ones that are made of 20 or so layers of stacked cloth are more forgiving than solid felt block wheels. I keep my dremel mounted in a vice. The whole rehaut fits nicely with room to spare around the layered wheel and you can bring sectors of it to contact with whatever pressure you want. I seldom take more than a couple minutes to polish a rehaut. Then the case immediately goes into the ultrasound and all the tiny compound particles get removed. Sometimes I have to use a soft toothbrush to coax out compound in the letters. I rinse in hot water and the whole process is like 15 minutes.

Yours looks good!

I have not removed the crystal, which was one of the reasons why I was pretty happy with using cape cod instead of dremel, I do not have a crystal press (yet). :)

I think I will just keep dremel away from rehaut, as there is no real need for it, I can just go over with cape cod again. Do you think it's polished enough, or should I do it a bit more? I know it's hard to tell from the pictures, but anyway. :) Thanks!

You have to decide that for yourself bro. Look at some gens closely if you can. or at least some good video closeups. I don't like to approach a mirror finish and a few times I've had to re-brush with Scotchbrite or 600 grit sandpaper to dull it back down a little. From what I can tell yours looks just fine, it's a definite improvement compared to the TT Sub and is not overdone.

I have polished it just a little bit more, now I am really happy with the results; it's not really mirror finish, but it looks well polished. Sadly I do not have a gen to compare it to, but from what I've seen from videos and images, it looks pretty close. Definately closer than the TT indeed :D

Here's a gen rehaut in ambient daylight with multiple windows behind it on a sunny day. Password SKYD

Thinking about doing this myself, but too afraid to open up the watch. Never done it before. Was it hard to open it up from underneath and polishing it with crystal still on? Looking great btw!

I haven't removed the crystal and I don't think you need either with cape cod, it's just a bit trickier to polish as the rehaut is right below crystal and it's very think (at least for my fatter fingers). The hardest part for me was reinstalling movement, as I was not familiar with how to easily install the clamps, but today I was done in minutes, very well worth the lesson :)

One thing that’s always bugged me about Vsf watches is how dull the rehaut is in person, this is a great improvement and brings the watch to life 👍🏻 great work!

awesome.

did you remove the movement and took the rehaut out? or did you polish within the case?

Thanks! You have to remove the movement as the rehaut is a part of the case, it's engraved on the side of the case. You can't take it out :)
