Hi,
Nice review, I'd give you that. I think the first photographs suffice to show the quality of the copy. Anyway, in my opinion, however, the review suffers from the fact that we do not know the specifics of the sample watch. By that I mean, Sinn has made minor chances to the U1 over the years to the effect that there is no U1 that is exactly like the other. For instance, the buckle you consider a not so well made replica actually fully mirrors a buckle form 2007 and 2008. I know that for a fact because I bought a genuine U1 and another replacement buckle at that time. I also noted that even from 2007 to 2008 the design of the bezel slightly changed. If you'd compare a genuine bezel from 2007 with one from 2012 and also noticed differences. I was surprised myself when I noted it. I am uncertain how much handcrafting is involvd here which woudl warrant for slight differences in the end product. The coulr of the hands is yet anotehr example. It did not stay the same form 2007 to 2014. As regards coulor tone of the uboat steel, even there there is no consitency. My U1 is enssentially a 3 tone watch, the coulor tone of metal brachlet is different form the case, which in turn is differnt from the bezzel.
Bottomline is, you need to compare apples with apples. Having a genuine U1 from say 2014 and a replica based on a say 2007 model will show diffences which may lead to incorrect conclusions.
What I really wanted to say is that: dun by U1 copies, buy the real thing. It's a no fancy no bullshit watch that is reliable and more importantly affordable. U1 replicas make no sense to me. Replicas should be reserved to overpriced and overly expensive watches like Panerais or Rolexes. U know, a Panerai is nice looking brand. In terms of cars, it is like a Dodge truck, impressive from far but witha lot of sharp edges at close up. Panerai - in my opinion - does not represent the fine arts of watchmaking. Thus 7 or 8 or 9 grand or whatever a piece is outrages. Having a 300 bucks replica makes sense. Or a DeepSea Dweller. Great watch, no doubt, but 12K where i am staying - you gotta be kidin'.
My 2 cents - hope you enjoyed the read.
Cheers.
