awesome post on your pam Asheron82... enough said, i've just made payment for pam 243 m from tony (asian7750), hopefully the sifussss over here can help out when i receive the QC pictures. for the past few weeks been browsing and browsing on pam non-stop (until my wife cannot tahan me), just to make sure i wont end up buying another low end rep or FAKE watch..i even took the trouble to order the 2012 Panerai Catalogue online, but once i got it i found out that Pam 243 is not featured in this catalogue, only pam 024 and 025..

i still can't believe that i just spend almost RM 1 f**king k for a rep.

haha, RM 1k for a rep ish just the tip of the iceberg dude, you can find super/ultra franken ones going for 800-1k+ USD onwards, there was also a franken AP ROO previously which sold for 3.5k USD.

anyway the aim of this hobby is to enjoy luxury watches at a fraction of the original cost and at the same time trying to mod it (if you wish to) to as gen-like as possible.

so far only 2 factories are famous for their products, namely Noob Factory and H-Factory. Noob makes quite a handful of genlike PAMs like the 127/217 fiddy, 29M, 243, 111N and AP ROOs Sec@12 models and some Rollies too.

H-Factory was famous for their Hublots, which are very well done. they also produced very good versions of the 005, 000, 177 PAMs etc. you can refer to ALES thread on the PAMs for a very detailed and indepth guide.

Further to Asheron's thread above on damn expensive franken..... i personally have spent around RM7 - 8k on a franken TopGun. Honestly, painful as hell, but worth every sen..... so, be prepared to bleed for the love of your watches!!!!!!! :D

Wow...I can't imagine I'll spend that kind of money on rep. Painful, yes but worth it? Wondering how much does the gen topgun cost?

my gen watches

i'm still trying to adapt into franken watches....my goodness usd3.5k??!!?? might as well go get a decent used gen..

10 years ago, when i was really really into Swiss watches, i was able to save up (everyday maggi mee or roti canai kosong - RM0.70/piece) to get a few of my all time fav watch - JLC RDM n reverso, Tag carrera chrono/aqua chrono/monaco steve mcqueen, IWC Ingeniuer...and of course my all time 3 fav non swiss CASIO,SEIKO and SUUNTO.until my girl friend (now WIFE:cry:) banned me from walking in to watch shop in malaysia, and also Bencolen in SINGAPORE.

i couldn't imagine if 10 years ago with that kinda money that i'd saved...i might end up opening a FINE 'REP' Swiss watch shop....and now i'm having debate with my watch collecting kaki on if i should just sell all my GEN n keep at least 1 or 2 gens then convert all to REPs,.. what do you guys think??

haha im not surprised that many other multiple gen watch owners do that as well, this would probably be unheard of a couple of years ago but with the introduction of super-reps in recent times, this makes it a more doable option as what you have mentioned. i sold most of my gens, consisting of rollies and omegas except 1 that i kept, the rest now are mostly reps that i rotate to wear on a daily basis since freeing up funds from the gen sell-off, i could purchase more reps and have variations.

Seriously, I'm thinking the same.
I have a seamaster which still able to fetch 3k which I'm considering selling to get more super rep. Coz I won't be heart ache if I knock them. Should I do that....?

If i am in your situation, i will get a same model of rep for the gen SM first then compare the gen and the rep and decide which one i want to keep and which one to go. Also one thing to take in consideration is that the resale value of most Omega watch is not very good too.

seriously bro, i think selling only 1 watch is not an issue....deciding on which to let go, that's kinda confusing and :frusty:, but i'd pretty much decide to let go most of my collections. these are the few REPs that i plan to get - Rolex Milgauss (still doing my homework on which is the best without mod), IWC Top Gun, PAM 326 and 026, vacheron tourb and SEIKO SPRING DRIVE MARINE MASTER 600M (unfortunately no rep for this and it cost a pain in the ass). kinda heartache knowing that it took me so much sweet and sour, ups and downs to get that range of collection and i'm giving up most of it for a bunch of china reps.. but who cares?? sooner or later one must learn how to live and let go..hahahaha, my wife is gonna kill me when she found out that i converted all my premium gen watch collection in to high end pasar malam pirated merchandise .:pirates:

looking forward to the pics!

Some shitty snaps with my samsung phone.....

TG1.jpg

This started out as a Concepta V1 with gen movement, Taka crystal and ETA day/datewheel. Then it went to another guy, and I had gen dial, hands, pushers, crown and tube and day/datewheel installed. As far as the watch goes, rep parts remaining are the case and the crystal (although Taka's crystal is gen-like enough for me).

Also, bought a set of "gen" strap and buckle off a guy from TZ (but I have my doubts on this one....).

Details of the dial (you can just make out the concentric circles on the 12 and 6 o'clock subdials....hard to capture on camera without the right lighting, but they are more visible to the eyes....)

TG2.jpg

TG4.jpg

And finally, the re-coloured logo:

TG3.jpg

That's about it, really. Visually, tbh, the results of going franken isn't that impressive....but the knowledge that it is substantially gen is priceless

(Stupid touchscreen) ... to continue, he disappeared with parts and money from a lot of ppl. I was one of the lucky few from early on for whom he did amazing work for..... he was renowned for putting together full gen 3714s.
