Love that insert.

It’s really not fair with all of your yuki dials n such. I’m working off of a cartel here.

Not finished yet. Reluming a little touch up. Just got done doing some more case work and waiting on my 702 crown and tube.

So far:
Case re-work. Fix the crown guards
Soften the edges
Drill lug holes
Thin the case and lugs.
Soften the edges off of the bracelet.
Lume the dial and hands.
Faded the insert. (I’m not sure if I like it or not yet.
Added some patina to the datewheel.

Left to do:
touch up work on the lume. May change the lume color of the hands and maybe add some rust to the hands.
Install atheya 702 crown n tube.

You can make the case sooo much thinner.

I would recommend you a cleaner insert, a nice Vietnamese dial and a 700 athaya crown plus pearl.

As always, it’s in the works. Lol. Modding is never complete imo.

This was the latest.

I’m still trying to decide which insert to go with. I still have a brand new one and I have ones for pretty much every stage of fading.

So far I’ve done...

Reshaped the case.

Lugs thinner

soften the edges

reshape the crown guards

drill lug holes bigger

Shave the plexi down a bit. (I’m not a big fan of how insanely large the height of the crystal makes the date) also have a Clark’s plexi on the way.

Lumed and then re-lumed the dial and hands Bc I wasn’t happy with how it turned out the first time.
Added some rust to some spots on the hands.

Added some patina to the DWO. A mixture of coffee and rust seemed to do the trick.

Waiting on atheya crown and tube. It finally got here the other day and when I went to separate the tube and crown so I could install it... the tube just snapped off of the crown. :(. Adrien is shipping me a new set.

Uneven coats of matte acrylic lacquer on the dial. Seems to make it look a bit older than a new dial.

Softened the edges of the bracelet so it doesn’t look brand new.

Modding a watch that should be about 40 years old is rough. It’s hard to make it to a sweet spot where it doesn’t look brand new and it doesn’t look like it was beat to Shit and tossed in the ocean for a decade.

I prefer to “well taken care of, almost new” look but I don’t think I can pull off a watch that would cost about as much as my car.

I wouldn’t mind getting a Vietnam dial but if I did, I think I’d save it for my next build. Planning on trying to make a matte dial 16800 next. Just need to get my hands on a good 5 digit sub case.

This is my work with mostly genuine parts, especially its beating heart :) I'll do a little write up about my two months building it when I have some spare time.

Beautiful. That dial looks amazing. What’s going on with the date window? It looks too small for that date. Almost like a standard noob Rolex. Lol.

Overall, that looks great. That kind of the look I want to shoot for. The clean and well taken care of look.

Thanks buddy, yes indeed, that’s the issue I’m trying to solve at the moment. Beautiful dial but the date window is not centred correctly and a tad small.

The date window looks too small. Very odd. You can prob file it a little to the left.

Let me ask you guys.
What is the correct crown for a 1680? I’ve seen 702 as well as 703. I think 702 looks best but I’ve seen both of those crowns on gens as well as rep builds.

Is it a Viet dial? With a gen movement and gen datewheel the date should be dead center. Perhaps a defect in the date window cutout on the dial?

Gen movement and gen datewheel yes, dial is Viet quality but comes from Canada. Had a previous one from the same seller which was spot on but the lume started flaking so had a replacement - this one. Now waiting for the third replacement. Hopefully third time lucky ;)

PS. Apologies OP for the thread highjack.

I believe the 703 was used after a Rolex service when a tube/crown needed changing.
