Seriously though it’ll be much appreciated if you can stop spamming in every single thread if you don’t have anything meaningful to contribute. Post counts don’t earn you respect. Knowledge and expertise count a lot more trust me. You can have 100000 posts and still be regarded as a fool. Quality my friend, not quantity.

What do you think the reason is behind the Dark Knight being heavier than the Ghost? I mean, they seem to have a lot of similar elements (ceramic bezel included).

The key reason is because the Dark Knight comes with a stainless steel midcase and the Ghost comes on a titanium one.

Also because you know ghosts are ethereal and weightless :hehehe:

Ohh, ok, I didn't know. Have you ever had a chance to weigh it? I'd wonder how much it actually weighs. My ballpark estimate would be 150-170 grams, especially considering you said that it's heavy to the point of discomfort.

I can weigh both for you if you’re interested.

The other funny thing about AP pricing. I’m on the waitlist for the Ghost as well as the new dark knight and the surprise is the ghost which is titanium as Legend says is cheaper than the stainless steel Dark knight. Weird in my opinion!

Yes for AP, titanium models typically cost more but for these two the Dark Knight costs S$400 more in retail pricing. On Chrono 24 the Dark Knight also costs slightly more than the Ghost.

Hey Legend did they give you much discount off RRP for the ghost and dark knight?
Trying to decide if I should buy from Australia or Singapore as I often go to SG.

I get my APs mostly from the boutique so no discount given. Pros and cons of buying from brand boutiques and ADs both depending on what you’re after. For me it’s about relationship building and not just the watch per se.

If you’re from Australia and buying from Singapore you can get a 7% tax rebate when you leave the country.

This shot reminds me of the Doha offshore, a relatively rare model and one of the few 42mms to come with a ceramic bezel, along with the RB2/3, Pride of Siam (white ceramic).

And for some reason the Doha reminds me of my friend SuperLory lol
I remember we were discussing the flat dial somewhere. Still love the Doha but getting my fix from the Dark Knight.

I decided to look into my AP "B" box today and saw that I own a 26470SO Dark Knight, and decided to write a little review about it to remind me of why I purchased it in the first place.

And so, after obtaining repeated feedback from AP watch owners, and finally seeing the light, AP decided to release in 2018, 2 42mm with ceramic bezels. One is the grey monochrome 26470IO and the other is the 26470SO model. They were colloquially named the "Ghost" and "Dark Knight" respectively. I purchased the Ghost first, and then the Dark Knight some months after. They are both very different both visually and in this short review we will focus on the Dark Knight.

This is a model I wore a lot less than the Ghost, partly due to the heftier weight. The 2018 Dark Knight is actually IDENTICAL to the 2014 Vampire save that it has a black brushed ceramic bezel added and also a new dual tone straps, which is black with blood red accents. Striking colors, but decidedly softer than the usual rubber straps AP opted to use for the offshores.

The watch itself is strikingly good looking, and has a gloss black mega tapisserie dial with sunburst charcoal subdials, which are each surrounded by metallic silver rings.. The red chrono hands sit strikingly against the black dial, and in the same red accent, the second counter ring surrounds the dial in seemingly defiant contrast. The dial markers are stark white and provide stark clarity to mark off the hours. The hands are the usual perfect white gold finish, and provides added legibility when reading the time.

I personally love the contrast of the ceramic bezel with both the bezel screw decoration and the mid case. Other than creating a layered aesthetic appeal, the ceramic bezel also provides some resistance against scratches compared to stainless steel bezels, especially for chunky watches like the Royal Oak Offshore. The crown and pushers are both made of black ceramic as well (brushed for the crown and gloss for the pushers). It is overall a watch which can be worn daily, and a watch which looks a lot better in person than in pictures, especially the sad photography skills I have for capturing watches.

One minor thing is that since 2019, AP uses a random double alphanumeric series prefix for the serial number. It no longer follows the alphabetical series previously used. This watch for example has a "HM" prefix as seen below

This is overall a rather striking watch visually. The colors of black, red and metal all blend well in an artful fusion and this makes for a good everyday watch. If you were ever on the fence regarding the rep, I will urge you to get it. Visually the rep is close to the gen, especially with the black dial and datewheel (get the updated V2 with cyclop and dw already upgraded) blurring lines on the actual position of the date window.

TGIF guys and thank you for reading this short little post of mine. It is more a reminder to myself then me trying to sell you guys anything. The rep is excellently crafted. Get one if you like the looks of it, and you won't regret it.

Thanks for a great review Legend.
Can’t wait to send you mine for the mods you kindly suggested, as soon as it’s possible.

I’ve had mine for probably 1.5 years and I totally fell in love with it. It’s a sporty and sexy design, I agree with you that they nailed it in terms of color combination. The black and red strap in contrast with the black and red accents in the dial and the ceramic bezel make it absolutely beautiful.

In terms of quality it seems like a solid watch. I’ve had minor issues with the chronograph when stopping it but I’m sure a service will fix it.

I bought a pair of gen black and red straps for the watch and was able to compare them with the rep ones and man they are exact. The only difference I can see under direct sunlight is the gen seems to have some kind of overall gloss.
So either I got screwed on eBay (the seller has a lot of good reviews) or the rep strap is unbelievable accurate.

I find myself loving the dark Knight and wearing it a lot.
I’ve never hold a gen in my hands but the rep has a great built feeling, and for the price in comparison, will make you a happy wearer.

Thank you for your input luvwatch.
The A7750 sec@12 is problematic by design and no modder will be able to make the chrono work more reliably. A movement service along with a Swiss mainspring replacement will make the movement more reliable but does not change the problematic nature of the chrono. You need to keep off the chrono if you want your movement to operate more reliable. Servicing will improve the timekeeping and power reserve of the movement but not improve the disastrous design of the modified movement with regard to the transfer gears and chronograph. Please do remember that.

The gen Dark Knight straps are actually nothing to shout about, the quality is ok but not much, if at all better than the rep straps. Visually the rep and gen will look VERY similar in real life. Of course, in the forum, the discerning member will be able to list all the differences between the gen and rep but remember we wear our watches in real life and not the forum. The forum is an academic and learning platform where large static pics are seen for learning and assessment. A lightly modded rep Dark Knight will look impressive on the wrist in real life. I’ve modded 2-3 of these and seen a rep in the wild and each of these look more than 90% close to the gen visually on the wrist in real life, IMHO. The black dial and dw helps to obscure the dw position flaw and the hands, though different at the base, look close enough to the gen.
The eyes will be drawn to the stark and beautiful contrasts and perfect blend between the dial, bezel, midcase and the two tone straps.

This is a beautiful Offshore model to own (gen or rep) and it’s really striking in person. Congrats to you for making the choice you did 1.5 years ago. You likely understand the consistent visual appeal this piece has. :)

For some reason I got excited when I saw the thread title and I was expecting that legend got his hands on a rep Vampire and was going to do a "gen vs rep" review. However, I'm still happy with what I read.

flofas thank you for your comment. I do have a pic of the gen vs a rep Dark Knight I modded. I will post it just for you. It was however just a casual pic taken (more of a real world view vs detailed scrutiny so you need to bear with yet another lousy photo from me lol
