You don't have to beleive it. Im just telling the forum what happened to me. When I went into the interrogation room and they turned on the tape machine, everyone sitting in there had to state there name and the part they played. Thats when the P. I. let me know that he was hired by rolex.

But the story has changed? Why?

I just did a little private investigating and found this. Now, if I were part of the "ECU" I would be on this forum spreading stories like this to try to stop people from selling replicas.

Well, I really didn't want to say it before. I just felt this was the right time. Its kind of embarrassing more than anything.

Ok, understood (my appologies for not keeping it flame free at first) I can see the reasoning behind that then. That sucks.

The most painful part of all that was paying the P.I. 2400 in restitution which was included in the total. He got paid by rolex and by me.

Once again I do apologize :)

I'm no authority but as far as I know or heard it is not a crime to purchase a rep. It is however illegal to sell them. I do not understand why though, as long as you represented it as a replica. I know there's the complaint that it is costing the producers of the original items business, but I don't necessarily believe that. There's the gen market then there's the rep market, I wouldn't think there is much crossover or persons defecting from the gen side to the rep.

I would say that it is possible to get caught up in something like a sweep if someone in your area complained. They may grab you as a little guy hoping you can lead them further up the foodchain if you are advetising something at the time. Would say the odds are very low that there would be legal issues when just selling your watch privately though.

I do know that recently one of those "liquidation sales" come to an arena in my area and they arrested like seven persons for selling counterfeit perfumes.

I wouldn't think your are going to show up on the radar anywhere unless you are doing volume sales of something illegal.

And this is why people get caught. I also never beleived that I could get busted for selling a replica rollie on Craigslist, if I stated on the ad that it was a rep and that it was my own that I was selling. As far as me going into the interrogation room it happened. The under cover cop that actually did the arrest, and the P.I proceeded to ask me where I got it from, do you get it online, do I have more, how many times have you posted on CL in the past, why I didn't stop posting the ad when I was being flagged several times. Those are all questions that they tend to ask in a ummmmmmmm, oh thats right an interrogation room.

Most people who get caught are for selling multiple items. I remember a couple of years ago reading about a guy that was buying reps and reselling them at work and where his wife worked. One of the two were working at a County Courthouse. They threw the book at that dumbass.

Hi ya Washed Up, I can understand that in your line of work it could be bad but believe me there are people here who have more, um, "sensitive" jobs than you.

As has been said, I am not aware of any action being taken for buying "for own use" against any member here. In your case I'd refrain from selling even a used rep however.

Let's at least make an attempt to stay on topic guys!

Anyone else know of actual, factual legal action against someone who has purchased a rep and shipped into the US ?

Thank you for that! Either nobody has been prosecuted OR they are already locked up and can't respond :)
