I’ve seen the previous threads discussing the Dumont from a few years ago. Can anyone comment on the best currently available version? I’m looking for the small (27.5mm) version in steel.

On TD sites I see:

I‘ll contact my usual TDs but just wanted to check for opinions first in case anyone has bought one recently.

Same reason I’m looking 😊

FWIW I think F1 looks the best but not sure on stock, still trying to find one…

Ctime do a decent ;looking 35mm santos

I don't know anyone who's ever owned one so can't comment on quality vs gen

I’m after the Santos Dumont (the dressier strap version) rather than the Santos de Cartier (the sportier bracelet version).

I hear the 35mm Santos de Cartier is good though!

I can't speak for the small but I have the F1 and it's a nice rep. Cartier font a little thinner than gen but other than that great. I bought the gen strap for it which was more than the watch which is great upgrade

Looks great on you! I’d definitely agree on replacing the strap as I’ve never had a good one from the factory…

Out of curiosity what’s your wrist size? I’m a bit tempted by one myself as well as for my wife and unsure if I’d also go small or go large like yours.

As the gen also comes with a cheap looking quartz movement i would say this is too good to be true looking at the finish and its pricing.
Dial wise all look decent while differences regarding the hue of the silvered surface and appearance of the bezel screws can be observed.
Without a gen/rep comparison i would say F1 got the closest to gen look. Then again side by side it could be completely different.

Of course the rep XL version lacks the piaget ultra thin manual wound movement but when it comes to Quartz the gen is simply overpriced and this rep is the perfect alternative.

Personally i would opt for the overall closer to gen construction of the F1 - even though movement construction is different from the 057 calibre, the movement holder looks to be the same whilst on the other examples there is only a plastic inlay. A gen 057 calibre can be found on ebay fairly cheap if anybody really thinks about modding this bargain haha

In addition to that - the F1 comes with a whole grain calf skin strap whilst the other feature a printed croco pattern. A big plus in my book - even though it would be exchanged anyways.

What all these quartz reps have in common is the lack of curved and fitting endlinks inside their straps.
But a custom or gen strap will fix these (non)issues.

I‘m on the fence for the M version as it leans more towards the vintage sizing of the old days combined with a contemporary touch without being as chunky as the santos de cartier. For the price you get a lot of watch i would say.

@Parto pushed me over the edge with the great pic so I’be just ordered an F1 small (think I’ll prefer the more classic sizing as I like a tank). In case anyone else is wondering I confirmed with Andrew and apparently F1 are running again after the raids and have stock.

@BIONONE I’ll post some impressions when it arrives

Did the gen strap fit without any mods? IIRC the rep I had the lug holes were in the wrong place

is this noticeably different in finish compared to the bvf santos? is it as close to gen as the santos? the pricing is really tempting

Where did you get the gen strap? Directly from Cartier?

I’d also love to see. I’m in the market for the smaller size too

I now have one of these on route from Trusty. I don't want to get a gen strap from Cartier so will probably source from a strap dealer here. Cartier will probably be £350/500 at a guess.

To be gen spec the only way is with gen strap but I did find this website https://delugs.com/collections/cartier-santos-dumont that looks like it does good examples for cheaper. Not a trusted dealer here and no experience so not making a recommendation
Their service and quality of their leather goods are immaculate. Not comparable to a camille fournet of course but you‘re only paying a fraction let alone not even cartier such standards.

Their inserts look well made for the dumont line. I wish their range of materials for the dumont straps would be a bit larger.
