I see no poll but my vote isn't simple.
I have no preference for date or no date, but I hate a date cyclops. I will not buy a watch with one.

You can't go wrong with either choice. Wouldn't be concerned about what other people prefer because it is you that will be spending the money and wearing the watch. Take your time and do some research before making a decision. The factory of choice for the Submariner seems to be VSF. Good luck and welcome to RWI.

I like the 14060 and 16610, so both types, but of older style. In newer style I prefer the date. The simplicity of the 14060 is excellent though.

I started off liking the "purity" of a plain Sub (BTW there's no such thing as a "no date" Sub ;)). But as soon as I had a date Sub with cyclops, that was it... a) I find I always want to know what the date is today, and b) I love a cyclops. So these days I find I'm a little reluctant to even wear a watch that hasn't got a date complication.

Personally I like the symmetry of the 14060 (no date), the dial also seems more refined, the first sub was without the date, it adds a "historical" side.
Plus it bothers me to set the date every time.

But to defend the 16610, the date may give it a less sporty side, more dressed or "chic" from my point of view

Hello and welcome to RWI!

I noticed that this is your second time posting on RWI. You are welcome to introduce yourself in the new members area in the "New members say hi" sub section.

If you haven't already, please take some time to read the sticky threads in the new members area (in all subsections), as they contain lots of information for newcomers and, most importantly, our forum rules which you URGENTLY need to know, as massively evident by the sale you posted with literally 0 posts and less than 3 seconds of membership (may well be an RWI record - "congrats" on that, by the way 😂).

A good starting point is this list of links to the most important RWI resources:

Also this please read this important sticky:

If you need further assistance, please feel free to contact me or @Feefo during your time as a newbie. That's what we are here for!

I personally prefer the date. The cyclops is one of the distinguishing features of the submariner.

I think no-date watches are cooler.

And in a highly ironic turn of events, I always miss a date complication when I wear a watch without a date (out of all times when I wear a watch). 😂

Happens to me all the time as well.

I have no explanation for it, but I prefer the date on the 5 digit subs and no-date on the 6 digit subs. I just think the new ceramic bezel subs look so much better without a date window.

Whichever you prefer is the right choice. I like the date window on my Sea Dweller. Don't care for watches that don't have that complication. I also like day/date which some people hate. Meh. To each his own.

Hahaha it is great to realise that many of us have similar thoughts:

No Date: looks very nice and aligned
Date: still more useful, and cyclops is somewhat of a special for Rolex

Maybe one additional remark concerning reps: the cyclops is still one of the greater tells of the sub. So Nodate is also less hassle (i.e. less mods required), if you want to be closer to Gen (although I have to admit I find it super hard to tell the difference between VSF and Gen even having them right next to each other in front of me).

I say it depends on how often you plan on wearing that particular Sub. Everytime I put on my Rolex, I have to set the date. Yes, I use the quick set function, but somehow I feel that's creating potential issues, almost on par with using a stop watch function on a . . . say, Daytona.
