Yeah well do your homework...We have plenty of gen owners here. I believe hk45ca (a mod here) had a superficial flaw on his brand new Rolex, and posted a letter that Rolex sent him saying it was an acceptable flaw...We are talking about a 10K watch here...Acceptable flaw lol...There was a thread on it, search it.

Well ok then, thanks for the advice.

I've owned 2 gens, a 16610, and a 16613. They were that great. Stunningly crafted, kept great time, and I wore them every day for years at a time with not even a hint of a problem. Criticizing Rolex for quality is like criticizing Ferrari for quality. Pointless.

I think we make ourselves crazy always noticing the flaws. 95% of people can't see them, or know any better.

Major agreement.

Well ok then, thanks for the advice.
Didn't mean to come off harsh, as I just read my post. But Rolex, like any other company, cannot make EVERYONE happy.

they make great watches. but like philly said; it's a bit naive to think that there are not going to be defects in a production run like that (i think that's what he said). there have been some members that have a "gens can't have flaws" attitude. but it's like a religion. anything from any company can have flaws. i did work with cars that they built for auto shows (like the major ones; detroit/frankfurt/la ect...) and a lot of the stuff the custom houses made was crap (pininfarina p.e.). and these were hand made by the best. i can imagine the kind of junk that rolls off a production line. for anything. watches included. i like rollies btw ;) but come on it's a machine like anything else.

i know this is off topic but i was in the studio the day after they shot the first rolling prototype of the Bugatti Veyron. they had the cut the all-nighter short when the f&^*ing thing lit up in flames and the tecs assaulted it with fire extinguishers. they showed me the 4x5 chromes of the thing with flames blasting up from the middle of the thing. before they shredded them. twice. the polaroids too.luxury companies are so weird about problems...i have no proof btw so this is easy to dismiss...just bs...i'm making up...

TXR, even mentioning Walmart in relation to a watch like Rolex gives you zero credibility.

Is that so? We cant say that a $20 walmart watch doesnt seem to have a lot of the flaws a $10000 Rolex has?

No? Why not?

Rolex seems to claim they have those "perfect" little watches, but on second look a lot of them dont seem so perfect. I will call this out ever time and compare to whatever I want.

I'm sure if we look at 100 walmart watches and compare, we will find some flaws. I'm sure if we look at 100 of anything we will see flaws. And maybe in this case we don't call them flaws but maybe differences instead.

very true. But the real issue is that the "perfect" $10.000 watch has flaws that a lot of the $20 watches dont have.

Understood,
I didn't really take it that you meant it that way. :)
My research is.. 25 or so yrs of owning gens and loving watches!
I do not think rolex are godlike perfection and immune to human error.
All I am saying is something like a crooked pearl is really doubtful in my opinion. So many checks and balances at a place like the rolex factory, from the guy that made the insert, to the guy that installed it, to the guy that installs the bracelet, and to QC... and then on to AD's..someone somewhere would spot it early on before the consumer saw it....but I concede miracles happen..never say never..etc.
I think maybe a guy reads that on a forum.. and then sometime later parrots it somewhere else as fact..Of course tiny flaws could happen when humans are involved.. by the sheer numbers of watches alone!
I just have never seen in person.. or even pictures of a major flaw. Something like a poor endlink fit..yes...a crooked pearl..no, not on a 10k watch.
In my wildest dreams I cannot imagine buying a brand new Sea Dweller, taking it over to a friends house..and him spotting it and saying "hey.. look at that pearl! it's crooked just like my rep!"
On something only a wus can find and measure sure..you are correct! You can't please everyone! :)

Some real hard core "watch guys" don't particularly care for Rolex .. And some people who aren't "watch guys" LOVE Rolex, turning the afore mentioned "watch guys" off even more .... I get it, believe me ... but I still like the LUXURY of the brand, and I'm speaking for me. .. ....I don't think there is a right or wrong here, LOL...

Some people will never understand the history and craftsmanship.

You may not like Morgans, but some people understand what exactly is a car that's hand made.

A Rolex and an Invicta do the exact same job just as a Mercedes Benz and a Hyundai do the same job.

Either you understand the differences or you don't.

perfectly understand, quality of a bmw series 7 is amazing! so u are paying top$$$ but u can actually c the money in the product
when talking about rolex (sometimes) u just need to take away the rolex logo and replace it for an invicta and u wont c a lot of difference .
i hope u understand what i mean as well :)

and about the movement , i dont think rolex have an amazing!!!! movement and i do not think they are all handmade
