just seems in the last few weeks..
every thread involving "give me my money back, or Ruby wtf.. Hont where are you... and so on."
is new... and by new I mean like sub 50 posts (actually in most cases..sub 20 posts)

whats up w/ that....
can we make some kind of sticky that says
FOR ALL NEW MEMBERS BUYING WATCHES READ THIS FIRST !!
(actually I think we have something like that anyways....)

and then when someone posts a complaint after waiting 2 weeks for their watch to arrive from china during Chinese new year. or what ever else the prob is...
instead of having the same convo every time.. we can just post that link to them..
let them read up and then later on if its still an issue we can fix it up.

..... just a though

I think basically it is based on misunderstandings. And maybe most people forget that this business isn't like buying a gen. Things takes time here!

And if people would just read the numerous subjects on CNY, maybe it would help the general understanding on why it takes so long.

I myself didn't have any negative experiences in my few months being here.

If you don't have the time and patience, BUY A GEN! :D

From what I've gathered it looks like it's mostly newbies that are posting and are frustrated. I'm a newbie too, but both of the watches I have purchased have come from members. I tend to have more patience than most though too.

May be there is a pb with our "old" dealers...like Angus, Ruby have had some troubles....And I have to say that I have had some "misunderstanding" with others nowadays...so ....now I'll pay more attention to that ...

I agree w/ both of you !

I have 3 watches being worked on atm..
its almost a grand in watches.. sure I'd like them back w/ in a week..
but I know ppl have life's and ya its been some time now
but I can wait ya know..

I think you guys hit it right on the head w/ frustration and 'false expectations of service'.
which is really why we need a large sign of some sort saying
"here is what to expect when buying a rep look here first !!!!"

That way we wouldn't get the mass posts of ppl complaining.

@Yannou:
I'm all for ppl discussing dealer services (trust me some have been really shitty lately)
but what I meant by my post is ppl who seem to really jump the gun because they expect very fast shipping and for a dealer to respond to emails right away.

I do think there should be posts made about the dealers - but only when theirs actually a problem, and in many cases the post as of late.. have not been problems with the dealers, but instead w/ the buyers.

I'd like to follow up on this, especially the CNY aspect.

Unfortunately, I think that the dealers need to realize that they are dealing with a GLOBAL clientele. The rest of the world doesn't shut down for 2 weeks every year and since we are the one's paying, a little understanding on their part is in order as well. I mean really, how hard is it to reply to an email to at least acknowledge they are aware of a situation and will work to correct it? I am having an issue right now with a dealer who can't seems to find the time to even type, "OK, I'll look into it when I return on..."

Can you imagine if businesses shut down for 2 weeks in ANY first-world economy? They would be devoured by more efficient competition. A few days; I get. 2 weeks is ridiculous by every business standard outside of China.

And yes, I fully understand that this is not a normal industry but I'm not suggesting anything radical, just simple and courteous customer communication. Most people will understand issues that arise, what causes misunderstanding is total silence since ignoring someone is perceived as very rude in Western cultures.

So until Chinese industry recognizes this aspect of operating globally, they will continue to see a backlash directed at their reputations during this time of year because it is they who are not in the mainstream in this particular instance.

This is going a bit off topic here re: CNY and the time taken to celebrate it. While we're here, I have a couple of points to bring up:

A) CNY is a very old tradition, just like Ramadam or Easter. There's no changing the length of holiday to suit anyone else

B) The dealers won't make better efforts with "customer service" or courtesy as long as there are no other competitors outside of mainland China directly manufacturing reps which are as good. There is no reason to up the ante

I'm not siding with the dealers, but I can see why they would treat customers the way they do. They surely must get hundreds of emails a day about the most petulant of anal subjects - when it gets to the point where they just think "ahh feck it" and go to the bar or off to bed etc.

Back to the OP, I agree; there should be a note to all newbs (perhaps a part of the "Welcome to RWI" email) explaining the etiquette thats needed when starting off in this hobby.

Todd, I think you're speaking about proper industry and not these "cottage industry" folks that are our rep dealers.

It's a cultural difference, too, and it's not just China.

We have Chik-fil-A down here where I live now and they are closed on Sundays. Every Sunday. Now, outside the Bible Belt, that would seem very strange for ANY restaurant, let alone a fast food joint. However, that's how they run their business. We deal with it.

I understand your frustration around CNY, but it's been that way for a long, long time and it's not likely to change anytime soon. Just plan for it and you'll sleep easier at night.

I am new to this site and new to reps all together, and have some issues with my first order from a good dealer! But not untill I have tried every possible way to settle things between him and I, will I turn to the forum! You have to do research, even on the fact that there is the Chiness new year break and other factors not known to us!! It looks like everything is working out ok with my purchase and key is to have some patients!!

I agree, but like I said 1 day a week or a couple of days here and there is a lot different than 2 whole weeks. All I can say is that first dealer to at least to start answering emails during this period, even if it just, "I'm on it as soon as the Chinese New Year is over." is going to start kicking everyone else's butt.

Hi Guys:

Noob here and have ordered from watcheden in the past couple of months. I've had some issues and have had to send back to china during the CNY and they've actually responded to my emails during this time. I understand that we're dealing with a unique situation that doesn't happen in the States or EU. I also find that most of the dealers on this site have some sort of notice on their pages about the shutdown/slowdown during this period. I don't think it's unreasonable for them to slow down during this timeframe and there is enough info on this board about this topic. I didn't expect 2-3 day turnaround on anything and prepared myself for 1 month each time I had to order or send something back. Let's be patient and understand that we're dealing with groups that operate in a different model and timeframe than we do.

I`m a newbie and I would like to explain what`s up like I see it.

I read this forum for about 20 - 24 hours over a few days.
I read threads dated back months , sometimes longer than a year ago.

This is what`s missing with the newbies who complain at first post. They do not read.

Or they read but are not willing to go through the same wait periode for the watch but order anyway.

Before ordering I was ok with the following:

1. I set out to wait 4 - 6 weeks.
2. I already knew customs might take my watch.
3. I was ready to pay tax if it would come with a customs form.
4. I was prepaired to be writing e-mails to people who can`t read and write english
as wel as I can.

So I would like to add that not all newbies are the same nagging an whinning people who freak out after waiting 7 days for a watch.
Some of us do our home work, we enjoy everything we read here.
We are happy that we joined this forum and hope to be an experienced member in a few years so we can help where we can.

exactly :)

as most of you have stated..

the problem is - ppl don't read..
they don't know what to expect, make their own assumptions and then get mad when their assumptions are not met.

Now I know when buying a watch it can be very exciting - and we can get impatient .. but waiting is part of the hobby - so is research !!!!
of course your going to be (most of the time) disappointed with an impulse buy,.. it would be what your expecting 99% of the time.

Perfectly put -- a welcome to RWI email !!

and again by all means I think its great we discuss dealers on her - knowledge is the key.
I'm just getting irked at all these post.
...............
An example of what I mean:
newmember1: T4D its been 1 day.., and you haven't emailed me back now that you have my money...I want my money back blah blah blah...
(newmember2 reads this.. )
4 days later..
Newmember3: I would like to buy the best rep who can I buy it from.
Newmember2: DON'T BUY FROM T4D.. HE'S HAVING TROUBLE AND IS CRAP..
...............

I used t4d as a random example.
\
see what I'm getting at though...

Hate to say it but nothing is going to change. This is how they do business and will continue to do it. It's an underground business that is never going to be run with the level of customer service that we are all used to with our purchases through regular websites or businesses.

Please understand something about how the Chinese celebrate the CNY.
Businesses shut down so employees can leave the metropolitan areas of China and travel back to their home cities which is often far away from where they are working. It does not matter if you are the boss or the peasant worker, most people go home to see Mom and Dad who dont have 2 nickles to rub together. Responding to emails periodically is not an option many times because the Internet may not have made it to their home town (same goes for electricity). This is not a story made up,, just read up on CNY traditions anywhere on google.

Also..
See this message to members from me viewtopic.php?f=1&t=48555
there was this one as well viewtopic.php?f=1&t=48882

One thing though that I wish would change is that dealers shut down their websites if they are not going to be around to fill orders. I think that is bull shit imo.. that is why I did it to mine.

If more people believed this coming into this hobby there would be fewer complaints. Granted there are times when "outing" a dealer is necessary but only after attempting to commmunicate with them privately. The forum is a great place to keep all of us accountable to each other.

A fantastic post! This is what ANYBODY who is planning to order a watch needs to be willing to accept. If they aren't prepared for what you listed above they really should re-think ordering one at all.

This is a very good answer to this thread, I wish we would have more newbies like Anne - Marie.

I also hate these guys coming in and posting in the first post...my watch is in customs since 2 days......... :( :( :(

And to textodd11:
just read the topic and respond to it or open up a new topic.

This doesn't belong to this threat but textodd11 : I am working for the biggest IT company in the world and our server manufacturing line will close for 10 days. So you have a problem when these poor watch mfg girls want to see family?

@guru,

I think this has EVERYTHING to do with this topic. New people come here to out dealers for exactly the reasons I have stated. Period. If you don't like the truth, I'm sorry. I'm not here to bash anyone, I'm saying that people in the West don't get it. It's absolutely true that Anne Marie's post or something like it should be posted but these are business transactions that have been initiated once money changes hands and at that point the relationship changes and most buyers could care less about ANY excuse for not maintaining communication.

Nobody is saying that if someone wants to take time off to see family that they shouldn't. What I'm saying is that they shouldn't accept someone's money and then expect them not get upset when they drop off the face of the earth for 2 weeks. Like Daytona said, If you're going to shut down, REALLY shut down and stop accepting orders and payments.

I'm sorry dude but once someone has my money, then they need to at least be able to follow through with simple and basic communications. If you don't think so...well I have this great piece of oceanfront property in Arizona that I'll sell you cheap. Just send me $50,000 and it's yours.

BTW, what the f... does your server manufacturing line shutting down have to do with anything? I'll bet your company is still communicating with any customers who may have paid them. What'll you bet?

The thread was about why there are so many new people coming on here to talk bad about dealers and I'll guarantee that a lot of it is because they don't understand the game; that's true. But I'll also guarantee the CNY has something to do with it right now too and I say that once they've taken someone's money, that's no excuse.
