New addition to the big-boy Nadal line is out after a week or two of teasing on RM's IG account. Honestly I don't like it, it feels like a more "normal" watch than the other 27s, and besides the weight (11.5g in total which is insane, just over the weight of two US nickels) it's boring. I don't really like the design direction they've pursued under Richard Mille the dude's kids, and there's a LOT of that new DNA in this design. The new carbon looks rad but I bet they only changed it because NTPT is already available on the net if you know where to look and isn't as special anymore. Be interested in what y'all's thoughts are on this one!

Meh. Has Richard Mille gone past its peak era?

I think so, once it got passed to his kids they just seem to not grasp the part of the brand that's "do really hard shit just to do it"; there hasn't been anything as crazy as the alusic lattice from the 12 or any of the truly crazy things from the other 27s lately and I kinda miss it.

Case design is an immidiate tell that it is a fake RM 😅

The thickness and weight is pretty insane for a tourb but it looks like a variation of the ultra-flat balance from the RM01 UP and the case feels weird to me. The caseback/integrated midcase thing is a trick bit of milling but nothing compared to how they used to do things.

Reading more into the specs, looks like they're using an acrylic crystal! I guess those RM builds with printed crystals I was working on weren't too far off. It's still ugly and boring looking but the construction is pretty interesting.

Some more interesting details as I've been looking more into it:
It IS basically a tourbillon version of the RM01-UP's ultra-flat balance, cool to see they're using that tech which is essentially useless for functionality but impressively technical (like the Richard Mille of old used to do!).
Like I said above, this is the second RM27 with an acrylic crystal. I'm going to explore some casting or milling options with PMMA for some of my builds, will be easier and more accessible than printed resin if I can find a partner or a cheap mold.
The entire thing is held together by pressure from the screws on the front. The rehaut has little tabs underneath it that lock into cavities in the movement bridges and keep the whole thing together under tension. This is essentially how I made the RM07-04 CAD, except I use the crystal surround as the locking piece instead of the rehaut. Interesting developments in case construction, and the monobloc midcase and rear are very impressive from a milling perspective.
Finally, you can easily see the titanium sleeves they use for the screws. It looks like they're just press-fit and glued into the monobloc case from the back. RM has been doing something similar with threaded inserts on their NTPT cases for years but this is the first time I know of that they used them as a design element.
Overall it's not very aesthetically impressive (I think) but after looking at it for a week I see some of the "do new things because they're hard" DNA of old RM in this more than I thought at first. Now bring on the reps! If someone can cram a tourb into 12mm this would be an impressive watch to start with.

aesthetically, it's not my cup of tea

but technically? yes it's a fantastic watch. a manual winding tourbillion that is 11.5g that you can play tennis in (probably not healthy for it but whatever) is crazy

I know they're showing gen pics - I just wished they would start repping thinner RMs...

I think they will not be able to reach 11.5g unless having very high tech machines but 38 seems resnoable for now

I actually love everything about it and wish there was a rep. Not a chance in hell I’m guessing.

Aren’t all of these pics the gen?
Edit: never mind. Not a tourbillon so likely won’t be too expensive. Maybe $450?
