I have looked into the Speedmaster line real and fake. The fakes are simply the wrong size never mind dial spacing. To get the one that even comes close in appearance is $400 plus. It's an automatic movement which is not a big deal. The chrono functions may or may not work which is not life or death either. They are 2mm too big in diameter and they are too thick. They scream fake. Not as bad as buying some gaudy piece of junk from Walmart, Macy's or fake junk from Canal St. but not far off.
The simple solution is to buy the Speedmaster "reduced" / "automatic" for a 1000 bucks as opposed to buying a fake that you will never be happy with.
I picked up an 18K plated with champagne face two weeks ago and I am getting a more traditional black face, black bezel this week.
OK, so a 1000 bucks is a chunk of change but when you weigh it against the resale value of a fake or possibly investing more time and money in the fake to make it look less fake it makes more sense to save the beer vouchers for something that will satisfy the itch more than a fake ever could. To use a car analogy you can take a Honda Civic and drop a V8 in and spend a lot of time and money making it beat the snot out of a Ferrari in a straight line but it is still a Honda Civic when you are done with it.
The great thing about a speedmaster "reduced", from my perspective as anything but an expert, is it can't be faked. The serial is right there on the back of the case and one glance at the thickness and size will tell you its authentic.
Don't get me wrong if I could pick up an accurate rep speedmaster with snoopy sleeping on his little house I would be all over it at the right price. If I could source the real face or fake one for the watch I would modify a real Speedmaster Pro with it.
Just my 2 cents.
