More American cars have the metric system now because ALL fasteners in new or relatively new American cars are now 'sourced' from China. Ask anyone in Detroit. Almost all if not ALL of the fasteners that you can buy in ANY auto parts store and hardware store in America are now sourced from China too !! That is why the switch to metric has gone full steam. The Chinese factories cant have a 'separate' set of tooling for both American and European fastener making machines. It would be too costly. The only car factories still using good quality high grade chrome moly steel in their fasteners are the European made cars of Mercedes, BMW, and Audi/VW. All sourced from Europe. Only the German assembled models. The rest are an if if. Ask any good mechanic who works with these cars. Many a Chinese made fastener has broken just by torqueing it to factory specs. Even lug nuts once thought to be unbreakable by tire changing outfits, now break more often. They now have to lower their lug nut air wrenches adjustments and slowly finish off by hand. Even Harley Davidson now uses these 'cheaper' fasteners. That is the result of this so called 'penny saving' 'globalization' thing going on. Contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder who can 'pass' the minimum 'requirements' called upon. You cant stop it. It is here to stay. It is happening to all industries in all sectors. Cheap and good enough is the norm. And metric is the way to go. No turning back now.
