Why anyone would want such a monstrosity is beyond me, but sometimes I wonder if certain buyers are just buying fakes off eBay to get them for free, and then possibly pass them on locally to someone unsuspecting, or even just for the value of the rep. All a buyer has to do is file a "counterfeit item claim" under eBay's money back policy and once confirmed the item is fake, eBay doesn't require it returned, just wants the buyer to "cooperate in disposing of the item/agree to not resell it" whatever that means...
Since nearly all eBay's policies are stacked solidly in the buyers favor-not too much risk for them.
Admittedly putting out a few grand, however briefly and however little risk of ultimately losing it involved, just to get a free phony watch might be a stretch, but there's always somebody willing to game the system.
I would be far more leery of private party selling of a gen Rolex on eBay -and be worried out of my mind that a buyer could say I sold them a fake, provide a Noob or JF to whoever eBay demanded they take it to to show it was "counterfeit" and pocket the gen I sold them. Plus maybe get my account suspended and reported for fraud to boot.
Not saying nobody gets taken by a fraudulent seller, but wouldn't your first stop after spending a few thousand on a watch be someone (AD or Local Jeweler) who would authenticate it for you? And if not as long as you bought it using one of eBay's payment methods you could get your $ back under their money back policy.
Buried in eBay's "money back policy":
Counterfeit items
If a buyer suspects that an item is counterfeit, and there are strong indicators that the item is counterfeit, we don't require the buyer to return the item to the seller. The buyer agrees to cooperate with us to ensure the proper disposal of the item. In such instances, we refund the buyer for the full cost of the item and original shipping, and the seller reimburses us for the refund. The buyer may not sell the item on eBay or elsewhere.
