Raffles 2824 build is loose in the case

Hi all, I’m looking for some advice, so I’m okay if you want to point me in the right direction. I’m sorry if this is a duplicate, I couldn’t find the answer from searching.

I have partially assembled a 2824 raffles Tudor Prince Date. I think I have the dial spacer, dial, and hands attached properly. Everything seems to work fine outside the case.

I can also screw in the now-assembled movement to the movement spacer that was provided in the raffles case. The problem is that this is loose from the case as a hole. It does not stay affixed, and can move around and leave a gap between the dial and the chapter ring (?), even when the case back is screwed down.

I’ll attach some photos here that hopefully demonstrate how everything is attached on the backend of the movement. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Hard to tell, but look like your movement tabs are too short and not slipping into the groove in the case

Okay, that makes sense. If that’s the issue, I’d be looking for something like this set from the Raffles store, correct: ONE SET OF ORIGINAL STAINLESS STEEL MOVEMENT DIAL SPACER RING WITH TWO SCREWS AND TWO TABS FOR MOUNTING ETA 2836 OR 2824 OR 2834 MOVEMENT INSIDE THE WATCH CASE

I’d likely confirm with Ken that these match the parts before I order. He’s been really helpful this whole time and shipped something very quickly when it wasn’t shipped in the original order.

If you say which country you are, a kind member may pop a couple in the mail for free.
Always nice to help out a fellow collector/builder

It seems the movement holders are upside down or at least not under the case where they press the movement down.

Buy yourself those

I just found this on AliExpress: 7,74€ | 10 Size Watch Movement Casing Clamp Fixing Adapter Securing Screw for ETA 2824 2834 2836 2846 Watch Repair Tool Accessory

I just found this on AliExpress: 7,22€ | 240pcs/set 12 Sizes Steel Watch Movement Fixing Adapter Casing Clamp Securing Screws Watch Repair Tool Accessory For Watchmaker

It will save you a lot of grief for very little money. it took me a long time to figure it out by myself 😅

For some reason, Raffles movement clamps are often not the right size.

Okay, thanks all for your responses! Sorry for the delay in getting back to them, but I appreciate it.

I was curious about the direction of the movement holders, but the other way felt more "natural" as it hugged the ring? Once I flipped them, I could see clearly that they're too short and don't come close to grabbing the case.

It does seem that in this orientation, they do collide with the rotor noticeably, is this for sure the right way to attach them? Does it matter if, using longer ones that I order, if they're in upside down as long as they hold properly?

I probably will just place an order, though likely from the "Bezos Family Store" as they aren't that much more expensive and I can get them tomorrow (patience is a virtue?).

The offer that someone might send some is quite nice. I'm not sure the etiquette so I've just placed my country in my profile for the time being.

Oh, absolutely, but I wanted to make sure that I didn't ignore a message, especially one very kind. I'm glad someone is still watching this thread because I did have some other questions, one about Raffles and then another about stems in general.

For the bracelet, I ordered Raffles' Oyster when I ordered everything else, but I'm a little disappointment with the gaps on the bracelet and the folded end links.

I was debating ordering the prince bracelet from Raffles (something like this), Ken has been very kind and accommodating, but I don't want to be disappointed again by quality. Is there a known high quality alternative that fits the 34 mm case, 19 mm end link?

My second question is about the crown fitting: I know it's never a bad idea to have extra lying around, I've read a lot of threads of people buying NH3x stems en masse to feel free to make mistakes. I'm actually cannibalizing a previous 2824 project of mine, so the stem has already been cut and presumably locktite'd (someone else helped put it together) for a larger case and crown. The good news is I can always go smaller

I think I'd be able to point the stem/crown combo at the business end of my fiance's hairdryer to release the locktite. But if not OR if I cut it too short, are the ETA 2824 stems the same as any SW and A2824 versions, or do I need to be extra cautious about compatibility in the stem when ordering online?

It appears that the tabs can’t fit into the proper case groove because your movement ring is sitting too high. It looks as though your dial feet sickle locks are sticking out and preventing the movement ring from seating properly.
Press those locks all the way in and try again.

While this didn’t solve the issue, that was an exactly correct read. The ring does fit much better around the movement now, I can’t believe you were able to gather that from my photos, that’s incredible! Thank you so much!

It does make it clear to see now though that the clamps are still likely too small. I wasn’t sure, so I tried them in both directions but in either orientation they weren’t able to “bite” into both sides at once.

Make sure you are getting them under the lip of the case. Your pictures show them above the lip of the case. They need to be underneath it (also make sure the movement space is pressed all the way down now that you have gotten the sickle locks corrected.

OMG yup, right again about now having the clamps under the case lip.

Yea, now I definitely have an appreciation for the longer clips. I would get one in on side, only for it to fall out when I was doing the other side.

To be honest, I'm not even sure these ones are fully underneath the lip, or just "wedged" into it. I think I got them, but I don't know.

I think I am going to have to order another 2824 stem, though.
