Why don't you go vintage? Lots of nice builds come up for sale on here and the other fora. The thing about older models - especially when they have been made to look used and worn, is that first of all the older the watch is, the more variance you will have from one gen to the next, because of so many years of use and re-polish etc. and that makes your rep seem more plausible - there is a larger margin for difference. On top of that not many people have seen these older models in real life, and while a handful of people you meet will have held or had a 16610 or 116610 at some point, a lot fewer have had or held a 16800 1680 5513/12 or whatever. The newer the watch you are replicating the higher the bar for perfection is.
excellent advice mate, you said exactly. Vintage reps are the best solution if you want to "fool" the people. I thought this solution .. BPSD is also good choice in this direction. it is out of market and should not be bright and shiny as new sub.
