Spirit.. Beautiful pictures. Loved them all. I promised T4D that I will buy his Rolex Sea-Dweller Asian 21J. The next one I want is the Rolex TT Blue/Sub. Thought I would save the money and wait to see what BK is doing with his modified one's.

I want one...and since the general consensus is that all dealers are good...I am going to get one. Then I am going to come and bug everyone for tips!!!!!

whatcha guna get ?

I am leaning toward a black Sub...like yours and Spirits...

I have always had a fondness for that watch...it just looks classy yet simple to me...

I there are like 20 options for that watch though! haha...so I am gonna prob keep it basic and stay in the $200 range. From what I have read it seems as though I can get a semi-decent one for that price.

Welcome to the DarkSide, mate!
...it will surely bite you to death with one watch after another!

@ Doc:
Usually, I let the camera with a exposure of 2 or 3 seconds to capture the Lume of my watches, with the desklamp ON.
But yesterday I played a little bit just to see if I could make the seconds hand glow thru the dial, and left the aperture open for friggin´ 20 secs, with no light in the bedroom, pitch black illumination.

Here´s the result. Submariner 16610 [Black Bezel]:
DSC09992x.jpg

QUESTION:
Are WM Pearls superlumed, or have nice glow-like-a-torch lume as this one? I hope so...

Cheers,
Spirit.

That picture is so freakin cool! I am a bit jealous my friend :D

I'm a big advocate of the 200 price range.
I've always been able to find a great watch for around that price
then again I'm not as anal as some ppl when it comes to the watches I wear / keep.

I seem to go through a pattern of buying a nice base watch modding it / having it modded..
then by the time the work is all done, getting bored of it and selling it haha.

For instance.. right now
BK is modding my"
Eurotimez TT sub for me (base price for the tt is 375 cuz its a very nice one w/ gen eta)
TWB black sub for me w/ noob dial / pearl + recessed insert + shaved cg's
LV (green bezel) with, pearl + recessed insert + shaved cg's

..........

Sad thing is..... In the mean time I bought myself a really nice MBK black sub ($400 or so)
which I recessed an insert + put a wm pearl on it..

now that twb bk is modding for me.. is un-needed.
meaning I'm guna turn around and sell it the min I get it back here.
actually prob guna sell the TT as well.. since I don't see myself wearing it that much.

..
haha its a never ending cycle of buy fix and sell
:)

I PM'd BK and introduced myself....asked him if he had any Rolex's or suggestions...just thought I 'd see :)

So when you mod a watch and sell it do you lose money? Just wondering because it seems as though that could get kind of expensive...

If you have any watches you want to get "rid of" hehe let me know...I am pretty much open to anything.

I actually had a dream last night that I got a watch...the lume was glowing really really brightly...

No doubt it was from that picture you posted...and hours on the forum haha :D

Some times I loose money..
sometimes I break even.

I try to break even haha
Ya it can get $$
:(

I'll shoot you a pm when I get my watches back,
You might be interested in the twb (as it is better then the bkmariner)
and for around the same price.

The biggest difference is the Rolex engraving in the rehaut? (that's what it's called right?!) :)

Other than that I am having some trouble seeing the differences! This is the same watch isn't it?

and the crystal height.
that's a very big tell tail sign of a rep.

(if you look @ the link I posted you can see the comments I've posted on the differences.)

Its easy to recess an insert, sand crown guards, switch out a crown for a gen or larger one,
but its almost impossible to fix the crystal height.

Very cool my friend!

I like the M series Sub...obviously

Would it be cheaper to mod the $200 with a noob bezel and crystal?

Or better to buy the M?

I love that watch...that's 100% the one I want.

there are (non M serial ones) that don't have the ROLEXROLEXROLEX engravings on it
(Just in case you like the ones w/ out the engraving better)

So the noob sub = about $70-120
and needs a new insert ($20)
and then to recess the insert ($20)
WM pearl ($10)
shaved crown guards ($40)
New crown ($40)
(Not to mention the movement is normally a21j )
(which isn't bad.. but not accurate)

So well say w/ postage and all you'll get a nice looking sub for around 220ish and a few weeks of waiting.
(but again prob an a21j movement - so it doesnt have the sweeping second hand)

.....

Then BKmariner = $350 (is the exact same as the watch I just listed, but w/ a eta movement so it does have the sweeping hand and all mods are taken into account for the price, 5 week waiting list though)

the TWB that I'm guna sell will prob also be $350 (so out of the price range you were looking at)
it has all the same mods as the bkmariner and the noob mods listed above, also a few additional ones since the twb doesnt come w/ a good dial. - it does however have a higher crystal height which the noob sub and bkmariner don't have. That's the real key to its success.

the M serial sub I posted isn't for sale :) ... well not for a week or 2 at least
- it goes for around 400+ (cuz it has a genuine bezel assembly) which lets me put gen inserts into it w/ out modding them (I also put a gen crown on it)

.....

Prob is you cant really put a new bezel on a noob sub.
crystal yes.. but its expensive and hard to do.
so at that point its better to just look for a twb or mbk that comes w/ the high crystal.

If you can deal with the smaller crystal height then the bkmariner or the modded noob sub is a great option !
I've had both and loved both dearly !

:)

^ These prices are OUT of THIS WORLD!!!

...No way in the fucking hell I would pay $20 to have a insert recessed, or not the fuck $40 for shaved CGs!
It´s a work of sandpaper and a little of patience! not even a bit of skill required.. and there are lots of tutorials around for it.

If you have patience to shave/sand, look how it´s going, continue shaving/sanding, look again....and keep doing this until you´re happy with it. you´re good to go.
Save $60 to add in another watch buy, or buy a nice watchbox with it for 10~20 watches!!

Cheers,
Spirit.

haha spirit and I have talked a lot about this in the past.
Also its why I "most of the time" do the mods my self now.

but.. ya $40 is the going price of our moders like BK, vac and er the other guy who I dont remember atm.

(again.. that's why I do it myself, unless I have an expensive watch, which most of the recently bought ones have been,... I don't like to do them myself since messing up is costly)

annnnnd spirit.. idk if recessing an insert is thatttttt easy -
I had quite the learning curve which cost me a good deal of $ haha.
if you screw up an insert you buy a new one ($20 and then get to work on it)
if you screw up the crown guards.. well.. then you need to buy a new case.. and thats $$
But def something you should learn to do since it pays off in the long run !

Wow I totally thought you were serious! haha.

So...the point of that story is to take the time to get your watch as detailed as possible right?

I don't know prices yet...nor do I know how to mod...obviously! I honestly don't even know what I'd be modding...I mean I would roughly know the parts based on my tutorial here (thank you thank you) but I wouldn't be able to tell if I was helping or hurting the cause...my guess is the latter...

LOL no. Exactly the opposite. The moral of the story and my signature is that you are not going to get called out on your Rollie. Now there are some people running around who mod their watches because they actually believe that if their pearl is not flat enough everyone will be laughing at them as they walk down the street. They need therapy. Sadly they are the most fanatical, thus they make more posts about it which is why the subject has been so distorted. But the fact is it's not true. Now to answer your original question. The reason others do mods is not out of fear but because they want to. They know that no one will ever be able to see the things thay've done. But they don't care because it's a hobby thing for them. And everyone has different aspects of the hobby that interests them. I don't care about the anal stuff. My opinion is if you need to take the watch apart or use a loupe to see it I don't care. I get satisfaction out of building from scratch. To others it's taking something out of the box and seeing how close they can get it visually. To some appearance is more important than dependability. They will buy a movement that is known to have problems because it has a better engraving on the rotor. Doesn't matter if it is inside the watch and will never be seen.

In the end it comes down to what's important to you. What about the hobby intrigues you. IE It's your money so do what makes you happy.

Very well put...haha I just re-read your story...now it's even funnier. You are right when you say most people won't know the difference. I would say that most are probably fake anyway...or else Rolex wouldn't be going to crazy lengths to end the replica watch sector.

I wonder if you were comparing Rollie's with someone who had a genuine...would it be noticeable?

I think I would want the best functional movement...one that would last. I think the noob bezel (right?) looks better anyhow...

I love all this by the way :)
