Welcome to the DarkSide, mate!
...it will surely bite you to death with one watch after another!
@ Doc:
Usually, I let the camera with a exposure of 2 or 3 seconds to capture the Lume of my watches, with the desklamp ON.
But yesterday I played a little bit just to see if I could make the seconds hand glow thru the dial, and left the aperture open for friggin´ 20 secs, with no light in the bedroom, pitch black illumination.
Here´s the result. Submariner 16610 [Black Bezel]:

QUESTION:
Are WM Pearls superlumed, or have nice glow-like-a-torch lume as this one? I hope so...
Cheers,
Spirit.

I am leaning toward a black Sub...like yours and Spirits...
I have always had a fondness for that watch...it just looks classy yet simple to me...
I there are like 20 options for that watch though! haha...so I am gonna prob keep it basic and stay in the $200 range. From what I have read it seems as though I can get a semi-decent one for that price.

So when you mod a watch and sell it do you lose money? Just wondering because it seems as though that could get kind of expensive...
If you have any watches you want to get "rid of" hehe let me know...I am pretty much open to anything.
I actually had a dream last night that I got a watch...the lume was glowing really really brightly...
No doubt it was from that picture you posted...and hours on the forum haha![]()

I like the M series Sub...obviously
Would it be cheaper to mod the $200 with a noob bezel and crystal?
Or better to buy the M?
I love that watch...that's 100% the one I want.

^ These prices are OUT of THIS WORLD!!!
...No way in the f***... hell I would pay $20 to have a insert recessed, or not the f**k $40 for shaved CGs!![]()
It´s a work of sandpaper and a little of patience! not even a bit of skill required.. and there are lots of tutorials around for it.
If you have patience to shave/sand, look how it´s going, continue shaving/sanding, look again....and keep doing this until you´re happy with it. you´re good to go.
Save $60 to add in another watch buy, or buy a nice watchbox with it for 10~20 watches!!
Cheers,
Spirit.

haha spirit and I have talked a lot about this in the past.
Also its why I "most of the time" do the mods my self now.
but.. ya $40 is the going price of our moders like BK, vac and er the other guy who I dont remember atm.
(again.. that's why I do it myself, unless I have an expensive watch, which most of the recently bought ones have been,... I don't like to do them myself since messing up is costly)
annnnnd spirit.. idk if recessing an insert is thatttttt easy -
I had quite the learning curve which cost me a good deal of $ haha.
if you screw up an insert you buy a new one ($20 and then get to work on it)
if you screw up the crown guards.. well.. then you need to buy a new case.. and thats $$
But def something you should learn to do since it pays off in the long run !

Wow I totally thought you were serious! haha.
So...the point of that story is to take the time to get your watch as detailed as possible right?
Very well put...haha I just re-read your story...now it's even funnier. You are right when you say most people won't know the difference. I would say that most are probably fake anyway...or else Rolex wouldn't be going to crazy lengths to end the replica watch sector.fakemaster said:dothedo said:fakemaster said:Modding helps your watch look beeter under a loupe. LOL no. Exactly the opposite. The moral of the story and my signature is that no one is you are not going to get called out on your Rollie. Now here are some people running around who mod their watches because they actually believe that if their pearl is not flat enough everyone will be laughing at them as they walk down the street. They need therapy. Sadly they are the most fanatical, thus they make more posts about it which is why the subject has been so distorted. But the fact is it's not true. Now to answer youe original question. The reason others do mods is not out of fear but because they want to. They know that no one will ever be able to see the things thay've done. But they don't care because it's a hobby thing for them. And everyone has different aspects of the hobby that interests them. I don't care about the anal stuff. My opinion is if you need to take the watch aprat or use a loupe to see it I don't care. I get satifaction out of building from scratch. To others it's taking something out of the box and seeing how close they can get it visually. To some appearance is more important than dpendability. They will buy a movement that is known to have problems because it has a better engraving on the rotor. Doesn't matter if it is inside the watch and will never be seen.
In the end it comes down to what's important to you. What about the hobby intrigues you. IE It's your money so do what makes you happy.
