Macro from a gen Yachtmaster. You think your rep's R's and crowns, etc. doesn't match up? Well, neither does gens'. I've also seen different dial colors and fonts on gen rollies on the SAME year models. PAM's have the same probs, especially on the font colors. I also saw a handful of gen PO's with the pearl not matching up to the 12 exact. Shit like that happens all the time with gens. Bottom line: gens are NOT that great. Stop sweating them! STOP OBSESSING OVER DETAILS NOBODY (EVEN GENS) HAVE PERFECTED! RELAX, AND ENJOY THIS HOBBY! :p

Amen brother! I was talking to my brother in law the other day about his gen Seamaster - the morning after he bought it, it had lost 2 hours overnight! They gave him a new one...

I have to laugh at those fuktards on the gen forum who get panties all up in a bunch when someone thinks they have a real Rolex but don't actually because they noticed an atom that was out of place. Granted, there are some really bad reps out there, but for some reason they have a hard time accepting that there are some bad gens out there also.

Time for another beer, tonight is going to get a little more interesting me thinks...

Shit happens, even with gens. Absolutely nothing wrong with trying to perfect our reps but it's things like this that let us step back and look at it all in perspective.

I'd probably go bat-shit crazy too if someone told me my $6000 watch wasn't much better than a $200 rep.

There was a guy on TRF forum and he took home then returned THREE new gen ceramic stainless subs because he kept finding flaws on each one after he got it home. First time was the ROLEXROLEX engraving was 1/100 of a degree off then one had a TINY spec of dust under the crystal that nobody but him could see. The next time was something about the bezel alignment. They didnt have any other Subs in stock so he has to wait for the Rolex AD to order more... He said he was going to call Rolex to tell them he wanted to come to the factory and stand beside the watchmaker as he builds his watch. He wanted to be there to make sure there were no mistakes during assembly.

What an idiot! If I was the AD I would just refund this guys money to make him go away. Nobody wants a customer like this guy. He must think hes pretty special lol.

Correct me if I am wrong, but if I am not mistaken, the GEN Rolex is handmade or "hand crafted" even. That means it was made by a human. The last time I checked, there were no perfect humans and humans make mistakes - ergo there is going to be so mistakes in the GEN watches as well. Probably less mistakes than reps, by there will be mistakes just the same...

You guys forgetting its not all the design of watch we buy (even though that makes a big deal) it's the handcrafted movement made for accuracy and for lasting a life time. The inside of the watch is what we SHOULD really want, the outside is for rep dealers to worry about lol

If you want a movement made for accuracy you get a quartz. I get my watches specifically for the outside. The movement in my reps cost $50 to replace. Even the best of gens have flaws, and there is a losers lottery of people that have movements that break down over time. Rolex warranty isn't for life, so if they break down you're talking hundreds, if not thousands to fix or replace. Plus, rolex (or any high end "hand crafted" movement for that matter) don't keep time any more accurately than a cheap 21j, or asian auto that's been properly serviced, and calibrated.

In short, I hope you're being facetious.

Well, here's my take on it. Pre-quartz days, back when having a reliable means of telling time was essential for living life (e.g., getting a job, business deals, etc.), solid movement housed inside a solid construction was worth the investment. Enter Bulova, Hamilton, Gruen, etc. Similar to having a car, internet and a computer, a cell phone, etc. nowadays. Post-quartz era, when everyone can afford to tell time for the sake of telling time, all the hoopla about the artistry of horology is exactly that: art.

Horological artistry has become a blend of art and jewelry, and no longer function. Timex took care of that! If anyone thinks automatics and manual winds have superior functionality, they're f'n nuts! Ask a daily pro-diver, not a hobbyist, and majority will tell you that they have a computer on their wrist, not a Rolex. Fighter pilots have gov. issued quartz Marathons on their wrists, not a $5000 Navitimer.

However, I personally don't have a problem with artistry on my wrist, no different than artistry of driving a high end car, etc., etc. I'd be a hypocrite to say otherwise. However, when a Hamilton khaki w/ ETA2824-2 costs $300-400 made in Swiss, there really is no reason for a Tag with the exact same movement to cost $1800, and a SS Cartier to cost $4000.

I have less problem paying for WG, YG, full gold, and platinum high end watches, because at least then they're truly jewelry.

my 2 cents. Then again, I'm preaching to the quire here.

After all these years (Since 2006) on these forums (RWI, RWG, RG) it is refreshing to have this information for all to see, GREAT POST . for you new members, the issue here is not human fallibility with regards to building Gens, but rather the agonizing anality that so many members exhibit in their deconstruction and criticism of macro exhibited flaws in $400.00 replica watches. The fact is, and I have seen it time after time with regards to gen Panerai models, is that there are so many tiny difference in each and every build of these watches. That is, no perfect consistency per watch, let alone per model. And as stated those tiny difference per high end watch are to be celebrated, because of the "Hand made" nature of these watches. So should it be with reps, so many members seem determined to ruin theirs and everybody-else enjoyment of wearing their watches because of some minutia that few if anybody can even see. I certainly understand the desire to get our watches "right", but for heaven sakes people, some of us need to step back and take a break. After all these years, I have never been called out on any replica watch that I have ever owned and even more important, rare, very rare is the story of anybody else being called out as well. I think of all of the agonizing and hair splitting that has gone on with regard to the Rolex Deep Sea variants that have been released over that last 2 years. The replica factories have made a fortune over the chasing after of these minute differences. And the biggest absurdity of all is that the vast majoritiy of these comparisons is done utilizing 3rd party photographs (And again using "one specific example" that may have been flawed in some way or another). Hell I won't buy the outstanding valued newly released model of the Pam 177L that can be purchased for only $218.00, just because it has a "Needle" Swan neck adjuster instead of a "Dagger" Swan neck adjuster. Jeessshh, what a stupid wanker I've become.LOL
Thanks for the rant time.

It is however the OCD of our members and other honorable rep collectors and their endless search for the perfect rep that brings us our 1:1 copies that we know have.

I for one am very grateful for their contributions. As such, I would not vote for us to stop just because we now know our gens to have flaws.
