Pelagos ZF vs. V6 - is there a consensus?

I've had my Pelagos for a couple months now. But, this is my first automatic watch, it took me a while to learn the proper techniques for changing bracelet, winding etc. However, the watch reserve would always stop, i thought its because I am not active enough and sedentary, but i tried a few things and then would wind it and having slight issue, idk how many hours reserve I should expect, but the bigger issue is it is losing time

I haven't done thorough testing, but I think it loses close to 1 second per minute, so in a span of like 5-6 hours it is off by about 5 minutes. Anyone know if I got a defective unit or is that to be expected in the rep watch, please let me know. Is it possible that I could have messed something up winding? I don't think I did as I was very careful and hesitant to try anything until researching. Please let me know

I had a same problem with ZF black bay one but not sure it is exactly problem with your watch. I went to watchsmith to open it and found out that something stuck with its hands. He remove hand and adjust them. Now it works fine. Your solution are ship it back to your TD or find your local watchsmith to fix. Good luck!

A good way to compare the details between the two watches is going to a website like intime and pulling both the V6F and the ZF side by side (v2 of the blue pelagos) with all the similar profile shots -- I had them up side by side and then the gen, and to my eyes, the V6F is the one that is definitely more accurate over all with less quality issues (e.g. misaliged markers). A few others agree on very close inspection of the fine details. This also includes the movement decoration which V6F nailed really well vs ZF. The lume is applied more evenly/better on the bezel on the V6F vs ZF. If I were to pick one, I would definitely go for the V6F. For me they nailed it with the Pelagos (nearly perfect, less quality issues vs ZF) and the bronze Black Bay.

My advice, don't take others advice and due your do diligence by comparing the details yourself. If you need to, ask for close QC pics from the TD.

I have nothing against ZF. But just some heads up on their quality issues I gather in some chinese sites/forums where people are cursing and complaining about ZF lol. Not only Pelagos but also their IWC Portuguese (since it's 7750...).

Problem with Pelagos the chinese OP adds: bezel insert color washes off, bezel too loose, the lume (some) are popped up.

There still doesn't seem to be a consensus is there? I'd love to buy a black one, just not sure which version.

Is it really so piece-dependent or is there a superior version?

I don't think there is a superior version. But if you want the black pelagos the choices are the old model with less text on the dial (zf v2) or the updated 2016 version with more text that is supposed to have the Tudor in house movement (v6f v2).
I just ordered the v6f V2 because I like the new version and because zf seems to have quality issues compared to other factories.
Not that I'm familiar with zf quality but a lot of people have experienced that as I can see from reading on the forum :)

I can't give a comparison but I decided on the KW/V6 as I prefer the busier dial print (Black version) and have had three ZF watches (All BB's) and every one of them required some type of repair where as the KW/V6 I've had have required none.

For me, I prefer the KW/V6F V2 because of the engraving improvements and quality, but if you trust ZF quality then go for it... (So not only the chinese are lamenting, ZF indeed have quality issues even in RWI...)

I hear a lot about the ZF quality phrase but isn't ZF the factory who also makes the incredible V4 reps for black bay? I hear great things about those reps

Maybe it is by luck? Most common issues are their IWC model with A7750s and Pelagos, other models I think I had not heard of any. In fact, there are many praises for the Tudor BB. And most found it given their steep prices on some models, their QC issues should be better.

My ZF blue out of the box looked better than the kw. However the bezel has faded and the movement sounds very dry and dirty.

Don't think there's an outright better option if you get decent QC.

Well, i did just order the blue one from ZF. According to several people on rwi ZF suffers from bad QC, I still think it got the better look though.

Like you I got a ZF with good hour marker alignments. Not perfect (these are reps after all) but not bad either. Unless I look at mine under a loupe they are fine. Otherwise no issues at all.

Taking into account that not alligned hour marks is maybe the biggest flaw on this watch, I can surely say that you have a really good alligned marks....

I'm wearing mine now and I think your markers might be even better! It's impossible to make them all appear straight in a photo given the angles etc. but this looks very good to me.
