Great write-up J. Looking forward to Pratts creation. Where'd you get that yellow strap on survivor? Looks awesome!

Great writing and tech-inspired pics. This watch, the 47mm Egyptian with the Radiomir lettering on the sandwich dial and the 8 days patented logo reffering to the Angelus movement it had in the fifties really does this to You. I share this enthusiasm and can smell the algae and diesel-fumes, metals and salty waters everytime I have this on the wrist. It´s a voyage into the past with a taste of adventure at an arms length:) Just changed the strap to a black Migliore and going to take some new pics later.

perfect size on a 7.5 wrist

Your love for the EGI has really brought out some entertaining writing. I really enjoyed reading through this essay, with details about your story, and the photos were really fascinating. EGI is probably the king of Submersibles, but somehow I have eluded contact with it for fear that my love would grow too strong. Maybe that is changing now.

Since the 52mm Eggi isn’t here yet I would like to share with you guys the latest “Praterai” in the Family, hope you enjoy the pics, and please see below.

So I missed out on the first Depth Gauge Pratt had made, things just didn’t work out. So Pratt ended up working with me to make this custom piece. I didn’t think it would come out as AWESOME as it did, and now I am kind of glad I missed out on the last one, even though it is a great piece as well.

When Pratt was done with this one I asked him to name it “Nautilus”
The dial is INSANE, the amount of detail in it and the work it took is very interesting in it of itself, and he documented the build of the dial here for you to look at…

This a Depth gauge style dial that I had never seen before until I started getting into the Vintage Panerais. Like the Eggi this is a “Working Piece” meant to tell the diver how deep he is. Here are a few of the real ones,

I can picture this piece worn by these guys!!!

Panerai%252520watches_Men%252520from%252520the%252520Italian%252520Navy%252520equipped%252520with%252520Panerai%252520instruments.jpg--760x0-q80-crop-scale-media-1x-subsampling-2-upscale-false.jpg

I initially had a more rustic and beaten feel for this piece, but after thinking about it and then receiving it, this has taken a more classic direction.

For those that don’t know, the Nautilus is the name of the Submarine that Captain Nemo used in the book 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea written by Jules Verne. I read the book when I was younger but for visualization purposes I will be using pics form the movie adaptation.
I thought of this watch as belonging to the one and only Captain Nemo himself. I thought of it being used by him during his adventures. I had even ordered a different strap for it, thankfully it hasn’t arrived! That made me look through the strap box and pair it up with this Classy Black Leather Strap with White Stitch from Didymo Straps from Spain. As soon as I put it on the watch I knew it was the right combo (for now). Wearing it I almost want to wear a suit with it. LOL, Well enough of my rants, below are pics of the Submarine “The Nautilus” for you to get an idea of what was floating around in my mind.

The Crystal looks like it’s under water and I can imagine looking out the window under the deep blue sea right along with Nemo…
