Hazing, thanks, I had read there was an issue with the lume colour on the hands, but to me personally, it’s pretty insignificant, as I rarely look at my watch in the dark, and cannot imagine anyone ever seeing my watch in the dark either.
such an easy thing for the factory to correct, but wonder if it could be done by a good mod guy.

If it wasn't for the slightly offset print on the dial, the 984 pretty much perfect. This gets my vote.

979 isn't as close to gen as some of the others though, closest to gen out of all the releases would be probably the 1616 & 984/5

here's a list of issues with this years releases......

979 - wrong colour lume, dial printing and texture slightly off
1616 - pretty much perfect
799 - crown guard is wrong
984/985 - pretty damn near perfect if you get one with aligned crystal
683, 959, 960 - lovely watches, however wrong movement, possibly too thick but no one done a side by side measurement yet.
961, same issues with dial and print as 979, don't know about marker/strap colour as not had one.

I’d say 1616 and 984 are on par, the 799 CG doesn’t really bother but defo not my cup of tea.

I’m the same way. It’s a non issue as the only reason it’s really ever lumed is when I stick a flashlight to it for pics. And it really is a weird flaw as every other model vsf makes, the lume is accurate - even models with the same set up of the blue and green lume. It’s like why get it wrong on this model and why not fix it after they figure it out?

As far as wearing it at places where it’s dark, even if someone knew about it, most likely they wouldn’t notice as there’s still a mix of green and blue. I doubt someone might say “hey isn’t the minute hand supposed to be blue!” But I would love to have someone identify the difference even if they see it as a rep because then I’d have someone in daily life who I could talk to about watches. But even if it popped up - like on my watch, my pip popped out and I lost it so I had to replace it as best I could aftermarket.

I only pointed out the lume flaw because the discussion popped up about ways the reps differ from gens.

As you say, it’s a non issue.
and I have yet to have anyone even notice the watch, let alone the lume.
most, would never even have heard of Panerai.
My Tudor and BREITLING yes, but my Panerai no, apart from my boss, who despite having no idea of the brand, but liked the look of my 561.
The joys of being watch enthusiasts.....

Well looks like you got the pointy end of a long, hard shaft my friend, because mine don't look like that:

1616 or 960?

Oh nice. I guess they fixed it. See... there’s a benefit to being Johnny-come-lately with regard to reps but sometimes you just gotta have it when it comes out. I got mine early and we knew the lume was off when it first came out. It’s discussed in the 1616 thread extensively. But no one ever posted about them fixing it. Nice. If that’s the case maybe it is the 1616.

My vote still for the 799 though. Depending on the criteria. Which really hasn’t been discussed either.

960 Sir. I've had it almost two months, and I absolutely LOVE it since I dabbed a bit of moebius oil on the rotor. I love it so much, I kinda want to buy it in gen.

m800 I thought so. The 1616 is the model with the lume as pictured. And that would be awesome if you got a gen. We’ve been overdue for a side by side. Because even while the 960 just came out, we’ve had the 1616 out for a while and haven’t gotten it together with the gen either.

I love the new batch of PAM438. Hands down my favorite REP this year. Just ordered 111 + PAM661 that I'm dying to receive in 2020.

Hi guys- just ordered the 1616 from a TD as the ones on M2M seem to fly! Wondering about reluming as I think it still may be an issue.

Who would be the go to guy in EU/UK for reluming work?

Thanks!

1616 as its the only one thats close enough to be a super rep - even though I sold mine for its smaller sibling. I disagree about the uniqueness however with its all blue lume markers, its pretty unique. more so than the 979...... Quality of the Dial made me sell my 979 and not bother with the 961. and the printing quality is way off the gen.

The smaller sibling is the 960 correct? You mention 1616 is near perfect but 960 on your list you say wrong movement and case thickness was that a mistake? Curious if the 1616 is a more accurate rep than 960 as smaller sibling would work better for my wrist :)

Yes the 960 is incorrect in the following, cannon pinion size, movement and too thick. However I still chose to keep the 960 over the 1616 as I preferred it.

Has to be the 984 for me. To perfectly replicate a watch with such a unique bezel and dial design has to be applauded.

I don't see the text misalignment issue on the 984/5. Can anyone explain exactly what the problem is phrase? I understand it's to do with the 'Panerai' print on the crystal being slightly misaligned in some watches, but in what way? Too high, too low, left aligned, right aligned, wonkily aligned? Help!
