Gents, it looks like if I am one of the first bastards who got his PAM2231 :D So let me give you a brief overview about my first impressions. The first thought which came up was really "this is the better PAM960!". The design is now perfect for me!

Overall quality: I couldn't discover any flaws on the case/bezel/datewheel (even under 3x zoom), but I am not a nitpicker for tiny flaws anyway. Especially the datewheel is perfectly aligned. Here some pics:

Glass: The old VSF fish eye effect has been removed already some time ago with latest PAMs. Luckily that is still the case. The glass has improved a lot but still a 2x AR coating would give this an additional upgrade.

Some more pics:

Rotor: this is not my first 42mm VSF PAM and unfortunately most of them have a flaw which can't be shown in the pictures --> the damn rotor noise and this one has it too! :( Actually this seems to be the worst case I've ever had. That needs to be fixed. I just hate it to give it away to the watchmaker when it just arrived.

Summary: so, in general it's a very good sample of a 42mm VSF (when you don't compare the thickness with gens) and I would recommend it to buy, IF you are able to fix the rotor noise or you are just the lucky one who received a silent one...

Such a nice collection. Is the all silver bezel a 42mm too? I know they made a gen one but Ive only seen the 44mm rep..

The 682 was repped by XF but is no longer made sadly. There is only 2 42mm Steel Panerais repped, the 1055 and 2223 (Green face and White face). The 2223 is very new so not many pictures of the rep is out.

Panerai are getting lazy.
2661 is same as 1661. Just downgraded without the hacking.
Makes it so easy for the factories.

Just clone the damn p900 movement already!

Unfortunately the golden age of Panerai is over. The brand's popularity has diminished in China, which, I (hope I'm wrong) means this is the best we have.

Hello,

where did you get your 973? I do not find any at TD.
Thanks

the 973 is not available. So I made one out of two Submersibles (683 + 1055). But there is a chance that this model will be re-produced as PAM 2973, if VSF keeps up releasing all new PAM Submersible gen models

I got this last week. Pretty happy with it but I’m no Panerai expert.

would you be able to bring it to a watch repairman and ask him to give some oil/lube to the rotor to silence the noise?

the past has shown, that oiling of the rotor is mostly not the solution. I haven't taken action on silencing the rotor, but the more I hear it, the more it becomes annoying. Would be glad to hear some advices, because the watch itself is a keeper!

Really easy solution

Everytime you shake your wrist cough really loudly - then you can't hear the rotor spin!

this solution sounds more practical compared to the advice I've got from my watchmaker. He sugggested to fart every time when the wrist is moving... haven't tested is so far 😷 but I am sure no one would ever notice the rotor sound!

My watchsmith has oiled the rotor. Problem solved, 0 noise after the procedure, it takes the feel of quality of the watch to another level.
